Liz isn't a cheater. Jack is. But Liz isn't. Which makes this, her kissing *Jack* completely nonsensical from her side.
(And from his, actually. Because he's made it clear he doesn't feel this way about her. As she's made it clear she doesn't feel this way about *him.* But he's made it more clear, done the verbal equivalent of taking out full-page ads in papers across the country that declare, "Jack Donaghy isn't attracted to Liz Lemon.")
She loves Carol.
Well.
She likes Carol.
She should love him, and it probably means something that she doesn't.
Liz pushes Jack away. "You're marrying your pregnant girlfriend."
It sounds like an order and... maybe it is. It's been nice, in a way, that Jack's love life is no longer up in the air.
(In another way, it seems like another thing that's making them drift apart.)
"I'm not ready."
"You're fifty-one years old. You're ready to get married. Again. I'm ready. We can't do stuff like this. We can't screw up our relationships out of fear--"
His expression is blank, but there's an edge to his voice. "I'm not in the mood to listen to platitudes from Dr. Phil."
"No one ever is, but sometimes you have to hear them. Honestly, what other reason would we have to kiss each other? What I have with Carol, what you have with Avery, isn't perfect, but it isn't *supposed* to be. We should just be happy with what we have."
His voice softens. "Lemon--"
He kisses her again, but it barely starts before she's stepping back.
"I'm going home. If you don't want to be with Avery, go call Nancy. Or don't be with anyone. But leave me out of it, because I'm not what you want, and we both know it."
He doesn't argue.
(For her, Carol's close. That's going to be enough.)
