A year ago, Ann was living with a guy whose time on her couch increased only marginally after he broke his legs and who used his band to pretend he had some drive. (Waiting on a Toadstool is currently on hiatus while they brainstorm new names.) Now, she's dating a woman who has more discipline and ambition than is good for her. (Ann can't picture Leslie becoming president, and she sometimes feels guilty for believing in her up to a point.)

It's strange, she thinks, that a large part of the chain of events leading to this change is going to be shown to strangers. (Assuming anyone sees it.) Maybe they'll even know where Ann was headed before she was fully aware she'd gone from being Leslie's friend to her "friend." Maybe they'll be confused when they get to the part where Leslie announces her intention to live "out and proud." (Ann hates to admit how embarrassed she was that day because it makes her sound ashamed of her life. But it had to be a big deal, since everything with Leslie is a big deal, and the cameras kept focusing on her, and she is ready for this documentary to be done.) Or maybe some will even see the evolution of her and Leslie the same way Ann did: as both surprising and natural.

But, for the most part, Ann doesn't worry about how people will view her life. Because she's much happier than she was a year ago.
