I love the whole mix of hot and goofy and adorable that Jack and Liz have going on.

It sounds like some sort of sexy inspirational message, which is probably how he meant it to come across.

Love it. Yes, he probably did.

Also! There's an interview with Michaela Watkins from SNL in the Improper Bostonian, which is this yuppieish free magazine here, and she has this to say, when asked who her favorite host is:

"Alec Baldwin and Neil Patrick Harris. I love the way Alec comports himself around the set. He really knows what he's doing. He's so smart. He's got an eye on each camera and knows exactly what's being shot when. I like a man who takes control."

Amen, sister. Also, this is the third interview I've read about recently where an SNL person says Alec is the best host. And I kind of feel like he can't be that much of a jerk if so many people like having him around.

Hee, I love it, too. Thank you!

I have heard a lot of people over the years praise Baldwin as one of the best hosts, which pleases me. Here's my thoughts about Alec's possible jerkiness: I don't think he's a terror all the time, but I think when he doesn't like someone, he doesn't really hold his tongue. Which is why there are people who have a lot of problems with him, and others who have happily worked with him a few times.

I think you're right. I doubt he would be one of those Chevy Chase types who was just a dick to everyone. Actually, someone at TWOP linked to this blog run by a waiter, where they were talking about celebrity customers, and a couple of them mentioned Baldwin as one of the nicest they had dealt with. Which was kind of surprising.

I actually read something like that once, in the Daily News or something? I forget where it was, but he was apparently very nice and left a big tip.

Don't mind me, but I read this and then creeped on your comments and wanted to add that my best friend used to work in a restaurant at the Banff Springs Hotel and met Alec when he was there on a celebrity ski weekend and said he was very nice... but he also got drunk and knocked over an auction table. HOWEVER she said he was very apologetic, haha.

Also: love the fic! :)

Ha! Oh, Baldwin. I like stories about him being nice.

Thank you! :)

There was a New Yorker profile of him several months ago in which he claimed to have stopped drinking in 1984--guess not! At least he was nice, though.

I was actually going to bring that up, but I've been wondering if that was correct, since I have heard of him consuming alcohol. (Or the tales of him getting tipsy are incorrect.)

Yeah, I kind of have the feeling that maybe he just doesn't drink very often, but enjoys making grandiose statements like he hasn't had a drink in 25 years, because, TBH, he kind of seems like someone who would do that.

I saw this book recently called (I think) Moments of Clarity, which is basically an anthology of interviews with celebrities who have dealt with drug and alcohol addiction. Baldwin was in the book and talked about abusing cocaine and alcohol in his 20s, and then quitting, but I'm not sure if he actually referred to himself as an alcoholic.

Hmm, yeah this happened a couple of years ago so I don't know. I don't think he was obscenely drunk or anything, but he'd had a few and he kind of stumbled backwards while he was talking to someone and knocked over the silent auction table. Apparently it was hilarious! But yeah, she said he was really nice, and pretty much the staff's favourite star that was there that weekend.

That's probably the case. In relation to that, I got into a conversation about that book recently, because someone asked me if he's an alcoholic -- because I suppose I am the person to go to about this? -- and I wasn't exactly sure. The excerpts I read from his section of the book were mostly about his drug use, so I just said, "Well, as far as I know he doesn't drink excessively anymore." I mean, I've never heard stories about him being massively drunk as long as I've cared about the Baldwin.

No, nothing credible anyway. I mean, none of his various tabloid adventures seemed related to drinking. I would hope that someone who's a recovering alcoholic wouldn't drink, period, whereas someone who drank too much but wasn't an alcoholic could become a more moderate drinker.
