This morning we had a bit of excitement in the yard. It seems a young Red-Tailed Hawk tried to make a dive at something (my chickens, judging by their reactions) and kind of lodged himself in the duck fence by the pond...

After I put the camera down I went and got my heavy leather gloves to try to extract him. When I got close he just hopped out of the fence and walked rather dazedly for a few feet. My chickens were still freaking out, so I decided it would be best to get him out of the area as soon as possible. So I carefully picked him up -he weighed practically nothing- and set him down out in the field, where he stood looking rather clueless for a while.
"Behold... HAWK PANTS!"

After a while he started a slow stroll towards the Eucalyptus trees that are home to the hawk family (and the owls, and many others). It was a strange and exciting experience, and one I wouldn't mind repeating -without the chicken attack, though. :P
