Well I finally, finally, FINALLY got my dirt paid for and delivered yesterday, and I spent the whole day prepping the garden beds. It is WONDERFUL, lovely, and awesome dirt! :B
But before that, here are some of the latest random pics...
Ian has been very vigilant about keeping his bike path clear...
I cut back the mums that Cherie gave us and gave the basket to Mr.Poo. He seems to like it...
Okay, just to clarify, Pippa is not allowed on the sofa. But as she and Mr.Poo were being thoroughly teased by the squirrel, I allowed it. :P
Poo says, "Just a little closer, you tiny-footed big-tailed twit!"
Not the best pic, as it's through a window, but here's the little bugger that's been tap-dancing on our roof and swinging from the decorative trim and porch railings. Get a load of that tail!
And now for the dirt!
Sonoma Materials delivered my 3 cubic yards of premium garden soil at 9am on the dot. The driver even managed to perfectly maneuver the 8' wide truck through our 9'4"-wide gate not once, but twice -well done! He even dumped it exactly where I wanted it, huzzah! Here's Pippa with the fresh lovely pile...
And here's what the garden area looked like before I started -the ducks say, "Hey, we like it this way!" (There's no dirt in those boxes, btw, just tall weeds)
Dirt in the boxes! :D (And no, I'm not planting those agave there, I just needed a place to put them)
The chickens think it's pretty nice (even though there's no tasty weeds)...
And the ducks agree...
And then I finished it all off with a fresh layer of mulch. Nice.
Here's some of the new gorgeous lavender I picked up from Passanisi's, isn't it a fabulous color?
I still have some busy bees, so that's good. I haven't seen any "K" or "Y" -winged bees, so I think they are free from varroa mites (YAY). And the mustard is starting to bloom -already!
See?
And Fifi says, "Shut the door, I'm layin' an egg!"
That's all for now. I think I overdid it yesterday as I came down with a runny nose and dry throat last night (and it still hasn't gone away). Lame. :\
As for my goat aspirations, I forgot to say that I was considering sheep as well and that I've been flip-flopping as to what would be a better fit. There are some breeders in the county that have the perfect small sheep, but they are $300+ so, yeah. O__O Goats aren't exactly cheap either. But I put a listing up on CL for info and advice about goats and sheep and have received some great replies! A lady on Watmaugh even has two wethers she'd like me to take, but I'm trying to be rational about it all and think it through before going to see them and melting at their cuteness. :B *resolve... weakening...*
