Ian's been put back on the crazy schedule, which pretty much sucks. Neither of us like it, but he's more adaptable to routine change and early mornings than I am. He's usually off Friday and Sunday, and every Saturday morning I could swear it's Monday, just because he was off the day before. Needless to say, the whole thing throws me for a loop.
Anyway, this past Friday was kind of nice in that it was a payday (yay!) and Ian apparently decided it was The Day to get everything I've had on my Needs/Wants list. I told him I would've been happy with just one thing on the list, but he said he was tired of seeing them on there for so long (and apparently the guys laid into him every time they came over and saw "new bras" and "shoes" on the list). :P
So first off we took my car in for a tune-up (and new wiper blades) and then I dropped off a couple chickens at the feed store and picked up some feed. Then we went up to Best Buy in search of a rumored cheap, dependable, region-free DVD player (we're on our third mid-priced DVD player, and getting sick of replacing them every year or so). Alas, it wasn't there -but I have since found it on Amazon. Then we went to the sports store in the same shopping center and I found a good pair of athletic shoes -I went with the "dust" colored suede since well, we live in a lot of dirt. At $70 I'm pretty sure they're the most expensive shoes I've ever owned, but as they're not impractical pumps or something, I'm sure I can live with the expense. After that we went next door to Target and while Ian perused the DVDs (settling on the Romancing the Stone/Jewel of the Nile boxset and the special edition Taxi Driver) I set out in search of at least one comfortable bra.
I HATE trying on clothes, and bras are pretty much terrible. I mean, I know I'm a cow, but can't we have some standardization across sizes? I literally had a fistful of bras when I walked into the dressing room (which, btw, is what they should call them since there are no tailors in there doing any "fitting") and only came out with one. I mean really, some turned my back into sausages, others had ridiculous amounts of padding and made my boobs spill over the top (in a very unattractive way), others made me look pointy or just plain weird -I don't need that kind of intimate image defamation! And wouldn't I love to have a pretty lacy bra! But no, they all look like a pair of bird's nests under a shirt! So the classic smooth demi it was -one in black and one in something close to skin-tone. Sucess! (after a lot of humiliation) Oh, and I also picked up a pack of cotton "bikini" underwear. Apparently the underwear cuts have changed in the last couple of years, because I remember bikini being about 2-3 inches below my navel, whereas these are about 2 inches above my muff. T___T In other words, they're bikini cut, but about three inches shorter than they used to be. My soft belly is not amused. Ian chuckled at my story, and I told him to imagine having to try on snug "socks" for his bits and finding that some of them made him look lumpy, small, or just plain weird. >:\
After that we ate at Taco Bell/Pizza Hut (because I loooove the pizza and never get it), then went to Borders. Ian got a couple magazines and I got the latest Kaze Hikaru, which I think is the only truly "shoujo" title I read anymore and thankfully hasn't become silly and cliche. Had to skip the latest High School Nightmare and the newest three Blade of the Immortal GNs, and a really pretty art book by some artist I'd never heard of and can't remember the name of. :P Man, I could easily blow $100 bucks a week on books if I was given the chance. :B
After Borders we went to Home Depot to get some pipe for the garage door "locks" (not sure what they're actually called, they hold one door shut via a pipe in the floor). Got to tell Ian I knew more about the RP HD than he did -but only because I had spent so much time there getting stuff for my chickens. Have I mentioned that we have electricity in the garage now? Well we do!
Let's see... then we went did the shopping at the Grocery Outlet, then to Long's for something (Ian's razors, I think), then Kmart for new wonderfully firm and unlumpy pillows, then Yardbirds for a pipe fitting that HD didn't have, then to pick up my car. The tune-up was almost $500, so yeah, back to being broke! And when we were leaving the guy asked us if we'd had the timing belt done at 98K, and I was like, "Pffft! I have no clue, just assume no." So he said we should get that done since it's a cheap job, but it if breaks it'll cost more than the car's worth. So I guess we'll be doing that next month. At least the windshield wipers work! :B
Then we went home, unpacked, and rearranged the garage a bit. We moved the ping-pong table out so we can play whenever we want, and had a good time playing for a while. Pippa kept watching the ball like a tennis spectator, and would "catch" all the balls that went astray. We'll probably end up making a pillow for her out there too, so she can hang out with us.
So all-in-all it was a very accomplished day and I got to cross several things off my list (while adding "timing belt"). I can't wait to give my new shoes a try on my bike, and to get those new bras into the rotation. XD
