I have decided this week that I would comment on the lecture rather than the tutorial. This week we looked at the movie of Chekhov’s life. We watched how he came to be known, his plays and the actors that played the characters in them, especially in his play “The Cherry Orchard”. There was one key quote that I got out of the movie which is:
“Human Beings are created for something wonderful”
From this movie we had a discussion and a few things came up such as:
That humans don’t know how to get there…
In regards to being wonderful, do we know how to be wonderful? I think that we all have the potential to do something wonderful; it’s whether or not we actually want to.
Is he commenting on his own life?...
Chekhov was a wonderful creator of plays that spark many feelings and emotions in us as people. I think that he could have been referring to his own life in a way especially when he first decided to put out his plays.
Is it the role of the artist to show the invisible to those who can’t see it? …I think that artists of any form including writers, poets and artist have plenty that they want to show people, I think that is why we create art, there is a lot of imagination, thought and emotions go into peoples work.
What do we want to become?...
This is an interesting question as I think a lot of us actually don’t know what we want to become. I think that it all comes as we grow into who we are as people, not just in the workforce but also as beings.
Tolstoy’s movie awoke many things in us as we watched it, I think that he is a wonderful story teller and I would like to go and see one of his plays one day.
