In the tutorial today we looked at ‘To a Sky Lark’ by Percy Shelley, we discussed how he describes the Sky Lark, we came up with a few different ideas, I think that he describes it as a majestic creature one that is so majestic and swift that when it is flying up into the sky its like fire rising up over the world. He talks about the song of the Sky Lark as well; he describes it as it’s a sweet song one that you wouldn’t hear unless you were focusing on it.
The way in which he describes the sky lark throughout the poem is as if he is in awe of the bird, like he wishes that he could see what the sky lark can see, in its upward journey into the bounding blue sky.
Towards the end of the poem, he asks the sky lark to teach us, and I think that that means that he wants us to stop and look around, take in our surroundings, enjoy life and not have such a monotonous life. In the last line he states ‘The world should listen then-as I am listening now’, I think that he in a way is begging us to look around and enjoy the great outdoors and the creatures that live in it.
I really enjoyed this poem it has a lot to it, and each time I read it I find something new to ponder on.
