To Sleep...To Dream...
Wow. Wow. Did I already say Wow? That was my reaction to Wake by Lisa McMann. What a fantastic debut novel. I could not DREAM a better book. I was both blown away and taken aback. If Lisa McMann finds her way here and reads this, I hope she won't be offended that I want to bronze her and put her in my own personal hall of awesome authors. Seriously, wow.
Wake by Lisa McMann:
Wake is a spellbinding, dreamlike ride that will hold you firmly in it's grasp until you reach the last page. And then you will wish for more.
Since Janie was eight years old she has had a secret. If someone near her falls asleep and begins to dream, she is pulled into it, even if she is awake. For many years she has carried this burden, silent and alone. She fears that if anyone finds out she will be dismissed as crazy. The most she can do is endure the falling, kissing and going to school naked dreams of her friends and classmates and hope that it doesn't interfere too much with her life.
Janie's dreams eventually become more powerful and frightening, and to her astonishment, interactive. The increased danger leads her to confide in her friend Cabel about her situation after he witnesses a horrifying episode in which she can't escape from. Janie and Cabe grow closer, but she doesn't know if she can trust him because his dreams give her reason to be very afraid. As her life falls down around her she must decide who to trust and try to gain control of the dreams...and the nightmares.
This book will stay with you long after you finish it, and trust me, you will not put it down until you do. I have never read anything like it.
I can't wait until Lisa McMann's next book, Fade, which will pick up where Wake left off.
