the one about nothing much

Dear Diary,

So today I learnt about:

• the different ways you can value a business venture based on:
- accounting rate of return
- internal rate of return
- payback period
- net present value

• nominal interest rate versus real rate and how to calculate interest rates given a certain level of inflation rate

• marketing management - a client’s ‘secret’ need


In other words, haven’t done much. Except a 25-year old Lebanese guy with short curly hair and a nice smile chatted me up on the train. After the pleasantries, part of the conversation went like this:

Guy: So where’s your boyfriend?
Me: I don’t have one.
Guy: Husband?
Me: No.
Guy: Dating anyone?
Me: No.
Guy: Wanna watch a movie this Saturday?
(Pause)
Me: No. I’ve got exams next week.
Guy: How about the week after?
Me: Easter break. Going away with friends.
Guy: How about the week after that?
Me: Are you serious?
Guy: Why? I’m not cute enough for you?
Me: Nah. You know you’re cute. I’m just not looking at the moment.
Guy: More like you haven’t come across someone you like.
Me: Yes.
Guy: Well, watch a movie with me. Let me spoil you.
(Silence)
Guy: You’re hurting me here.
(Silence)
Me: I think this is my stop.
