Swim cap? check. Goggles? check. Swimming costume doesn't have any holes? check. :P
Dust to dust? or water to water? Like most people, I feel that there is something about swimming and immersing oneself in a pool of water that heightens the senses. My whole body reacts to the sudden change in temperature, I become more aware of my breathing and the necessary cadence to accompany each stroke, those precious seconds when, with the water blocking out all noise, all I can hear is the sound of bubbles exiting my mouth as I exhale.
It's been years but everytime I go for a swim, I can still hear the voice of my swimming instructor ringing in my head: Stretch your arms as far as you can, let your hand brush your thigh before you pull it out for the next stroke...breathe...no, you're rolling your head too fast, wait for your hand to slice the water before you put your head down again...
I'm not a strong swimmer. But I'm efficient. I can cover more distance per stroke than someone who never learnt how to swim properly. It's all in the way you roll your shoulders people!
