Keeping mum

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Sydney suburbia. I caught up with my mom tonight and had dinner at Lidcombe's Catholic Workers' Club (not very upmarket :P). Not sure why it's called catholic but don't think the church would be glad about the number of poker machines in this place.

Anywho, Tuesday night is Bingo night. It was so funny because everyone was quiet, as if they were taking exams. Every now and then someone would stand up and say 'Bingo!'. I felt like running up the front and shout 'Bingo!' too but that might ruin their evening. Bingo is only once a week. I'm not that cruel.

A poem I wrote on the train. First draft.

Keeping Mum

My mother said "I admire you."
I asked "Why?"
"You are strong where I am weak."
I asked "How?"

"There are reasons,"
I asked "What?"
"Your dad betrayed me."
I said "When?"

"You don't know the full story,"
I said "Tell me."

"I can't. You won't believe me.
You've always been your daddy's little girl."

I shook my head.
"I'm my mommy's woman too."

Tears fell
but there I remained,
still without my answers.
