Michael was diagnosed today with eczema. He developed a rash the day after we carved our Halloween pumpkins. The same rash appeared last year at the same time. Last year we thought it was a latex allergy, since it was all over his face, and he was trying on Halloween masks the day before. We applied a prescription (2.5%) hydrocortizone cream, which cleared it up for the most part. But then I noticed the bumps on his chest, like dry goosebumps that don't go away. He also has more red bumps on his wrists and on the backs of his knees. Just when it seemed that the rash would go away, it flared up again. So we called the doctor, and here we are!
The doctor didn't prescribe anything today. But he did say that he can't use any kind of soap, must take room-temp baths, and that we should moisturize daily. He's going to hate it!!
From what I have read so far, it seems that if a child has the condition from birth, which he has, they will usually grow out of it by age 2. If not, then it will most likely be a chronic condition for the rest of his life. Oh goody.
