Ok i haven't made an entry since fuck knows when so here we go.
Really lookin forward to the World Cup now. 213 days!!! I finally gotten over the the whole issue about who's qualified and who hasn't. I was origianally dismayed by the African qualifying (Cameroon, Nigeria and Senegal - all colourful, all entertaining, all didn't make it) and what a kick in the teeth for RSA, not qualifying for the wrold cup they should've been hosting. Whilst missing these countries, i will welcome Angola, Cota di Iviore, Togo and particularly Ghana who i actually think might do quite well. Tunisia are still shit though.
The european qualifying was hardly a picnic either. I was disappointed that Eire, Denmark, Greece and Bulgaria will miss out (and Scotland obv) and plucky Israel were so close winning group 4 and foiling the mighty France (a la 1994) but on this occasion it wasn't to be. UEAFA's dark-horses may well come in the shape of the Ukraine or Serbia & Montenegro - both making WC debuts.
The South American qualifying finished identical to 2002. (well the top 5 places that mattered anyway) Will Australia gain revenge on Ur-a-gay in the play-offs this time? Probabal not, but it's a nice thought.
The CONCACAF finished pretty much the same too (USA, Mechiko and Costa Rica storming thru) only this time the 4th placed team gets to play-off with a team from Asia - step up Trinidad & Tobago Vs Bahrain. I hope Bahrain win thought they don't really deserve to. The Asian qualifying was the otherwise the same from 2002, except Iran replace China PR to make it the same as France '98 instead.
Bring on the draw. i was trying to work out the other day who i think will be seeded. France, Germany, Italy, Argies and Brazil are givens and as much as i resent saying it, England should and probably will be seeded too. The last two places will be taken by two of : Spain, Sweden, Portugal, South Korea or Holland - who knows how they'll work it?
In other news es ist mein Gubertstag am Freitag! wOOT! i mean Prima! Legal drinking here we come. I hope i get a job soon. Certain ppl are obligated to arrive at 7.30 or as eary as possible (allowing for when ppl finish work, get home, changed, something to eat etc etc) These ppl know who they are. Apparantely (and i mean apparantely) a lot of ppl form irish are coming, so that's nice. Rho and the gang are coming too with Sam and the in-laws. My friends will come and the pub gang will do what they like, i'm sure. I putting a 9pm deadline on when we need to get my mum drunk by - make it happen.
