Yeah, its been a while since I updated. Let's start back with the convention.
Day 1 Friday = I left my house at 4 am to beat Atlanta traffic. I'm a paranoid driver. When I go some place new or that I know has bad traffic problems I like to plan my travel during the times which traffic is super light. So I headed out extra early. I stopped at a station and tanked up on gas @ $2.69 a gallon. I arrived at the hotel/convention center at roughly 6:30 am. I thought this would be to early to check in, so I sat in my car and watched anime on my portable DVD player till 7:30. I went to the hotel and checked in. Up to my room I went to check out the various things there in my room. After I did that, I called my friend Brandon and determined at what time they would be arriving. They wouldn't be there for at least a few more hours. So I watched TV. All during this time the noise level in the hotel was gradually increasine. Around 11ish, Brandon called me and I headed down stairs to meet up with them. It was Brandon, his sister and his sister's friend. Each were cosplaying as different characters from different things. Bradon was Snake from Metal Gear Solid 3, his sister was Ed from Cowboy Bebop. Her friend I didn't recognize. So anyway, they headed off to get into their room and I headed up to complete my registration. Let me say this. Register earlier. The line for non-paid registration went at least 5 times as long as the line I was in. I worked my way up to the counter, got my badge and bag 'o goodies(tm). The bag contained some fliers, a event schedule and a dvd of previews. After that I wondered around the various rooms seeing what was going on. There were various rooms that had anime viewing. There were rooms for tabletop games and rooms for video games. I watched them play Halo 2 and DDR for a while, waiting for the opening ceremonies. I went to go see the opening ceremonies. That was interesting. Apparently they open by tossing candy into the crowd. Anyway, they introduced the various guests (3 of which didn't make it because they were stuck in Texas (hurricane Rita happened at the same time as the convention.)) talked about some of the things that were going to happen during this year's con. Joked a bit, talked a bit then brought out their singer (I can't remember her name). I enjoyed the two songs she sung. One was from an anime, the other was from a dance game. There was this one guy all the way in the front who got up and started dancing. I found that amusing. After that I wandered around and watched lots of various anime. I went to the dealer's room and gawked over how much stuff was there. Got all the freebies I could and only bought one t-shirt and a grab bag of goodies. I worked really hard not to spend like mad. Later that evening, I watched even more anime and went to the opening of the Yoko Ida (I think that's close) concert, bought one of her CDs then went to my room for supper. Room Service is expensive. $40 for a steak dinner. Lol. After supper I attended Anime Hell which is a 3 hour block of various crazy anime, commericals, videos and anything else that funny. Then I stayed for Midnight Madness which is where they take clips of anime and mix them and dub in a story, it was hilarous. After that I went upstairs and when to bed.
Day 2 Saturday - Woke up and ate my $20 breakfast, showered, dressed and head downstairs, camera in hand. I spent most of the day walking around snapping pictures, watching anime and all around enjoying myself. I went back to the dealer's room and bought some pocky and ramune. I also tried to join in on a game of Halo 2 but they gave me the old style X-Box controllers so my entire game was off. I couldn't hit the buttons right. Oh well. Later that evening they had to costume contest. I wanted to go but the room was so packed I decided against it. That's when the idea hit me to get my laptop, head downstairs and spend a few hours just goofing around with pictures, AIM and WoW. That's also when I got glomped. That was fun. This beautiful woman came out of no where and glomped me. I know what glomping is. But tackle/hugs from various anime cosplayers (all female of course) made me feel a bit better about being alone. Its like you may be alone, but your not alone. We are all one big family, however dysfuctional. I spent the rest of the eveing wathing more anime. (Can you sense a theme here?)
Day 3 Sunday - Woke up and did my routine. Repacked my stuff and checked out of my room and took my luggage to the car. Then I went back inside and headed straight for the dealer room. Sunday is the last day of the con and the deals are much better there. I splurged like nobody's business. I bought t-shirts, a bag, more pocky. I walked and shopped and shopped. Afterwards I took my purchases out the car and went to go see what anime they were going to be showing. After deciding that I really didn't want to see what they were playing, I headed out to my car and headed home.
Well, I hope whoever reads this enjoys seeing what I did and that they will come with my next year.
