Why is the Midwest so freaking cold??????????????

Also, what do you people wear when it gets below freezing? Because temperatures like that do not compute for me. Cold weather is something I've seen in movies and heard about but never actually had any desire to experience. When I went to St. Louis this time last year it was cold too, but not THAT cold.

go to target or wherever and get some long underwear. it sounds lame, but seriously, it's worth it. and layer up with a sweater and a coat. most importantly: HATS. if your head is warm, the rest of you will feel warmer.

alternately, avoid the outdoors. i mean, it's detroit. you're better off staying inside, anyhow.

I wonder if they even sell long underwear here! Obviously I've never had to shop for it, but okay, we'll see.

Dude, it was like 85 in LA today. When dishes go from the oven to the freezer they crack. MY BODY IS GOING TO CRACK!!!!

If you want some hipster ones American Apparel sells long underwear. Also, Target and any department store carries long thermal underwear and shirts. Old Navy too I think.

I need an example of a fly hat to wear. Because I don't really "do" hats.

two words: EAR FLAPS. you don't realize how much you take the temperature of your ears for granted until you're in 22˚ weather and they feel like they're about to freeze off your head. plus, there are some freaking sweet options.

you can go full throttle with the wool/shearling deal:

LAYERS. Long sleeve t-shirt (thermal, preferably), long sleeve button down, sweater, jacket. You will probably want to get some long underwear (again, Target is your bff) because your legs will thank you. Nice, thick socks (you don't think you will lose sensation in your toes but you will) and uh, that's about it.

I started thinking today about how much I missed Chicago then Richard told me the high was somewhere in the 30's and I was suddenly loving my 50-degree Florida weather.

DING DING DING WE HAVE A WINNER! I dug a long-sleeve thermal out of my dresser that I probably haven't worn in years. And I've got a button-down shirt and a sweater to go over that. I'm also bringing a zip-up sweater and a thick suit-jacket type thing. And a scarf and gloves. It's just my legs and feet I'm worried about now.
