Stereo Types - part 1

I'd like to talk about stereo types tonight. It's a suggested topic and one that I feel a need to address in this tumultuous world in which we live.

There are so many different kinds of stereos.

The term "stereo" comes from "sterephonic sound" which is a reproduction of sound using two independent audio channles usually through a pair of speaker systems. This seperation of sound, from a traditional "mono" system, creates a pleasent and natural impression of sound hear from various directions as in natural hearing.

This type of stereo is called a boombox.

The boombox is a type of stereo that was adopted by the urban community in the early 80s. The portable nature of the boombox stereo allowed people to take their "boom" anywhere they wanted. This led to other synonymous terms for the this stereo type to arrise such as JAMBOX or GHETTOBLASTER. This ghettoblaster was featured in the 1981 docudrama "Wildstyle". The stereo this man is holding is regarded as the "Holy Grail" of jamboxes, the JVC RC-M70JW.

This was a common scene for this type of stereo in the early to mid 80s. This type of stereo allowed young people to form a bond regardless of age, race, religion or stereotype.

This boombox is awesome, the Casio CK-200, it has a built in synthesizer. This means not only could you play your favorite jams, but you can jam along with them. During the stereo revolution, each company involved was trying to one up the other with new astounding features. Among those features were: multiple tape decks, digitized tuners, BIG TIME knobs, loud colors, and of course BASS BOOST.

The stereo is obviously something to be proud of. Nothing to keep in a closet. You gotta bring that stereo outside, lay down some cardboard, and show the world whats up. Thats a metaphor... for life.
