Music Recommendation: Citizen Cope
If you haven't heard of him yet, you will. He's already caught the attention of such notables as Carlos Santana and Keifer Sutherland (who started a record label called IRONWORKS). Cope played this year's City Stages festival here in Birmingham that I enjoyed along with mynameisbessie and wanderbear and put on one hella good set that was memorable to the three of us because it was such a laid back groove that we just sat back in our chairs, closed our eyes and enjoyed the occasional breeze.
You'd never have expected music this groove-laden and funk-filled to come from a guy named Clarence Greenberg. I guess that's why his stage name is Cope. Still, whatever it can be defined as, this guy's has it in spades.
