Music of the Night

Early yesterday morning I woke up in a cold sweat.

To most that would be a negative occurrence but in my case it was a subconcious homecoming of sorts.  See, when I was full on in the throes of being a musician, when every free moment I had was devoted to writing and recording music, it was times like these that my inspiration would show itself.

I would often wake up like this with entire lyrics and melodies overwhelming me.  This is how it happened yesterday as a matter of fact - for the first time since I moved to Alabama, I woke up with a song.  I'm not talking just a catchy hook here, I'm talking the entire chorus (complete with music and mass choir background vocals) and all.

The situation so stunned me that I had to record the chorus on my computer so I was sure I wouldn't forget the basic melody.

Then I did something I never do; I shared the recorded idea.  Not that it was a big deal really, considering I shared it with jesus_h_biscuit.

In reality the song is probably not that great yet, but the flood of memories the process enacted was one of the most exciting personal moments I have experienced in years.  I think this song might actually end up recorded.  It makes me sad for my NYC days when I could write and record a song in my home studio.  Now I don't even have a keyboard much less the rest of the recording equipment that once filled my office.
