So Saturday night was the big book release party for Our Movie Year that I threw.

But the books weren't there. Miscommunication, it seemed. I completely wigged out. Then all these friends of friends starting wishing me a happy birthday. Then someone complained about the shitty music--CDs I had made. Finally, in an attempt to console me, I was told that our site is the 2nd Google hit for the word "Overheard".

It had been the first.

But the next day, when I rewound the events, I realized that 30 people came to a bar in the LES and had fun. As a host I am a tad hyperactive, and I remember stepping back, looking around, and thinking that every single person in the bar was having a conversation and I didn't need to be in host mode. Then I realized that, if the books had been there, people would not have had a materially better time. And no one complained when I handed out Post-Its signed by Harvey (I asked him to send bookplates and that's what I got.)

BTW, I hate "looking at the bright side" but this is a sincere recounting of events.
