Here's Jan's Journal part 2! Sorry, this took longer than I was hoping to complete! I hope ya like it
Michael is just arriving home from work. “Hey, I’m ho..” Like a magnet, Jan wraps her arms around him and hugs him tightly. It really catches him off guard. “whoa…hey.” He senses something’s not right. “Sweetheart, is everything okay?”
Jan ignores the question, “I‘m so glad you‘re home.”
Michael breaks the hug and takes her upper arms, firmly. He knows that something’s wrong and won’t let her avoid the question, “Jan, look at me. What’s wrong?"
It was too late. Damn it Jan. She swore she wasn’t going to do this. She’s not going to get into this right now. They are going to go meet his mom, have a great time, then talk about things. Even though Michael probably won’t let that happen. Especially since her eyes were red and puffy from trying to hold back tears, but failing. What’s with her lately? She used to be so tough and has always hid her feelings well. Was Michael making her this way? She used to be able to blame the pain killers she was taking, but that’s not the case anymore. Was it because he is the one who’s always sharing his feelings with her? And maybe he’s rubbing off on her…she’s not quite sure why she’s like this. She’s shed so many tears in the past that she thought she didn’t have anymore to shed. She was wrong…
For the hell of it, Jan tries to get out of it anyways, “nothing…I’m just anxious to meet your mom. Let’s get going..” She grabs his hand to go, but he yanks her back, “Michael!”
“Jan! You know we’re not going anywhere until you tell me what happened.”
“Michael. I told myself I wasn’t going to do this right now, okay? We can talk later.”
“That’s fine, except we’re going to talk about it now.”
“…”
“If it was because I was late by a couple minutes…I’m sorry. Stupid Dwight was…”
“It’s not that Michael” She wipes away a tear. “I’m sorry. I didn’t even ask you, how was your day? What was it that stupid Dwight did?”
Takes her by the hand and leads her to the couch, “Oh no. You’re not getting out of this.”
Jan rolls her eyes, “Michael this is stupid. Your mom’s waiting for us. We have to go.”
Michael’s not listening to what she’s saying. He’s just concerned what’s got her so upset that she was actually glad he was home. It was almost as if he strived on little opportunities like this. When Jan is sad about something, he can’t wait to have her tell him. He loves the feeling when she’s crying on his shoulder, letting him hug her. He down right loves that, “Wait right here.”
“Where are you…”
“Kleenex."
“Michael, I’m not even cry…” Before she finishes Michael comes back with the box of Kleenex.
“Here. Now…” He gets all situated on the couch and holds her hands. “..what happened?”
“You’re so sweet to me Michael. You know that?” She brushes his hair back. “Thank-you.”
“Yeah you’ve told me this before…several times. Now answer the question.”
“Nothing is wrong Michael. I’m just PMS-ing.”
“You’re not PMS-ing. It’s only the 14th. It’s too early…why does this always have to be a battle Jan? Just tell me what happened. Or should I guess? Let’s see…um…did your ex call or something.” Jan immediately looks away…“bingo. What did he say Jan?”
Jan knows that she’s going to have to talk about it. She didn’t realize that it really is a constant battle with her and how hurt Michael must feel when he’s asking her and she‘s not telling him anything. Now that she’s living with Michael, that’s going to have to change. Writing in her journal isn’t going to solve that. So with a deep breath she’s about to tell him about her afternoon phone call. “Well…”
Michael gets like he always does before she’s about to tell him. His ears perk up. He gets anxious like a little school girl. He’s ready to take her in his arms for comfort if…when she starts to cry. “Go on…”
“Richard wants to sue me.”
“What? Why?”
“He wants…lets see…how did he word it? Oh yeah, he wants the fucking wedding ring back.”
“And he’s mad because you won’t give it back to him?”
Frustrated, “I gave the fucking ring back to him Michael. But he’s claiming that I never did. He’s just trying to make my life a living hell.”
“Did you tell him to look up his ass?”
“Yeah…except I may have thrown in a few other words as well”
“Well good. God why can’t he leave…”
Jan jumps in, “why the hell would I want that fucking memory of him anyways?”
“Maybe he thinks you pawned it.”
“He said that. But anything I would’ve bought with that money would be a memory of him. You know? Every time I look at it I’d see him.” Gets more upset, “This is so stupid! I don’t have it! What am I going to do Michael?” Before he can answer she remember something else he said, “Oh! And he asked me where I live, right after he called me a ’fucking lying bitch’. What the hell? Am I really supposed to…”
Michael stands up, “That’s it. I’ve heard enough. We’ve gotta get out of here."
Jan pulls him back down as she smiles softly, “No Michael. We can’t go to Jamaica.”
“But this reason is a real one. Isn’t it? It makes sense to flee the country.”
Every time there might be a little problem Michael’s instinct answer is ‘let’s go to Jamaica.’ Like living in an impoverished country would be a lot better. The other day Jan was looking for dinner and wasn’t having any luck so Michael said “You know where they have food? Jamaica! Let’s go.” Jan’s a lot more realistic than Michael is. If she actually said “You know what? Let’s go.” Michael and her would’ve got on that red eye flight. She wishes she could be a little more like that. Spontaneous like him. Not having a care in the world. What’s even stopping her right now? Its not like she’s the one with the job.
“What am I going to do Michael?” She’s on the verge of tears, “If he brings this to court then…”
“Jan! The man had no case here.”
“You think so?”
“I know so. Think about it. That ring. Whether you have it or not is rightfully yours. You didn’t have to give it back to him. He gave it to you!”
“But I didn’t feel right keeping it.”
“Exactly. You just have nothing to worry about.”
She gives him a soft kiss, “Thank-you.”
“Anytime…feel better?”
“I feel a lot better. And one of these times Michael, we’ll go to Jamaica, I promise.”
“Well if this situation wasn’t good enough to go to Jamaica, I don’t know what is…” They laugh. “So are ya ready to meet my mom?”
“Yeah.” He grabs her hand to stand up, “And if she’s anything like you Michael. I can’t wait to meet her.”
“Well guess who I got my sense of humor from?”
“Well…I wanna say you got it from your mom, but…” they smile as he kisses her… “Mmm…and where did you get your kissing from?”
“Um…the dog?”
Jan playfully swats him on the arm. She laughs…
“Jan will you do me a favor?”
“Sure anything.”
“Whoa…you’re not even going to ask what it is first? That’s so unlike you.”
“I know. I know. What is it?”
“Will you laugh more often?"
“What do you mean?"
“Your laugh…it’s like music to my ears…will you do it more often?”
“Sure...I’ll do it more often.” She laughs a little. “So how often must I do it?”
“Whenever I say something funny, I guess? Or whenever you’re in the mood?”
Was he really serious? Was he actually not catching on when Jan was making intentional ‘that’s what she said’ jokes? He really is growing up. This may take some time to get used to. “First of all…when are you ever funny?”
“Hey! I resent that.”
She laughs. “Let’s go meet your mom.”
----Later----
It became a nightly routine. Jan always got ready for bed first, then when Michael was getting ready, she’d be writing in her journal. Something she actually looks forward to now. So it’s just another night with her writing in her journal. She’s writing about what a great time she had at Michael’s moms. It went a lot better than Jan anticipated. Michael’s mom was so sweet and down-to-earth. She was a lot different than Michael. Not a bad different, you just wouldn’t think that she was his mother. Michael wasn’t lying either when he said she was funny.
***Earlier that night***
“So…Michael told me you got a boob job for him…”
She instantly gives that look to Michael, and he ducks his head down. He knows that he did something wrong, “Michael! Wha-I-um…” She’s not sure what to say
“Its okay Jan. Did Michael tell you what I used to do?”
Jan is still glaring at Michael, “No. He didn’t.” She gives her attention to his mother now, for her to go on…
“Well when his father and I were together and we would get into a fight, or something, and he’d break up with me, I’d usually go buy something, or get some work done, so he’d take me back. It worked every time.” She laughs…
Jan just about chokes on her own spit. Even though his mom is laughing about it, Jan tries to hold her laughter back. “Really?”
She nods, proudly. “Yeah…I had to get out of that relationship.”
“Well I’m seriously considering getting them taken out…”
Jan hardly finishes her sentence before Michael pipes in, “What! You can’t do that!”
Jan just continues talking, ignoring how bummed Michael is right now, “Yeah, they really hurt, and there’s really no point in having them..”
“Well dear, you need to do whatever makes you happy.”
Jan started out being completely nervous about meeting his mom. But when she welcomed her with open arms, all of that nervousness disappeared. There was never a dull moment. Jan also learned more about Michael and his childhood, which turned out to be quite interesting. He pretended to be all embarrassed. But Jan knew that he was loving every minute of it.
For the first time in 9 months. 9 months! Jan felt a real connection with Michael. So why can’t she just tell him those three tiny little words? Its not just because it’s Michael Scott. No. It goes far deeper than that. It’s her pathetic ex husband that’s making it so difficult to say those words. Richard used to be a lot like Michael, believe it or not, but Richard used to be kind, and funny and gentle. He used to care about Jan’s feelings. Then their one year anniversary came and went and he started becoming a jerk, but she was so in love with him that it made her blind. It made her see past all of the hurt he was causing her…Jan is terrified that the same thing is going to happen with Michael. Its so hard for her to trust again. That’s all Richard’s fault. She’s scared that if she allows herself to be head-over-heels in love with Michael, that she might get her heart broken again…
The night ended with Michael literally tugging on Jan’s arm to pull them away. They just kept talking and talking and talking. They had to get going because Michael has to go into work early tomorrow. It’s just for a half day, which is good, considering it’s his birthday. Jan has a huge surprise for him. He’s going to be so stoked!
***Okay…I’m so sorry this took awhile to get up! Don’t be hatin on me….lol..I hope ya liked it***
