Weekend round up

Aug 30, 2005 12:55

This weekend i went on a mini-tour with the Mothballs, plus Paul and Jolene. We went to Las Vegas to add to the festivities of Roller Con where my friend Lesa also joined. Then we headed to LA for a house party with Special Ed and the Knights of the New Crusade where my sister joined. As aaron is going to be writing a tour zine, i will only hit on the high points as they pertained to me:

- While in Las Vegas, i was sitting at a black jack table doing a fine job of gambling. As most of you well know, i am not much of a drinker. So when the waitress came by and asked if a wanted a drink, i decided to play the role of a seasoned alcoholic. "I'll take a Pabst." Oh man, that was the worst thing i could have said. "A PABST?!?!?! Do they still make that? I haven't heard anyone ask for a PABST in 25 years! Honey, we don't have Pabst." I then weakly replied, "Ummmm, can i get a Bud." Dennis Hopper, where are you when i need you? I left the table with my $40 in winnings before she returned. What did she expect from the cheap-o $5 table?

- As the complete story of 12 year old kids attacked by Aaron at the Vagabond Inn pool for calling us "fags" will surely be told elsewhere, i will not repeat it here (except to say that i am glad i talked Aaron out of throwing a beer can at the little hellions). But i did get in a stare down with the mini-Eminem as he taunted me and threatened to hit me with a razor scooter. Upon reminding myself that i am 29 years old and this was just a dumb little kid, a big smile came across my face and i just left. But as i walked away, i tried to grab the ass of another 12 year old - his butt was too cute not to pinch.

- After the party in San Pedro was broken up by the cops for being too noisy on a sunday evening, we loaded up the band gear into Aaron's car. My sober-but-beer-drenched body hopped into the driver seat and drove down to the corner meet up with the others. I pulled off to the curb to get out of traffic so we wouldn't disturb traffic. As we tried to figure out how to shuffle people and band equipment, a cop pulled up behind my car and flashed his light in my rear-view mirror as aaron and i sat inside. Everyone else took that as a good sign to leave.

After a few minutes parked behind us, the cop came around the side of the car, lifted up the windshield wiper, and placed a ticket underneath.

"What's that for?" i questioned.
"Parking in a red zone."
"I'm not parked, i'm just picking up my friends so we can leave."
"Oh, so your not parked? Does that mean you are rolling?" he asked trying to incriminate me of some other silly offense.
"There is no reason to give me a ticket."
"One of your friends spit on my car, so someone is going to have to pay for it." Not only were none of those kids at the party my friends, ten minutes before i had dissuaded Aaron from taking his drunken piss on the side of a cop car. But this cop seemed to not have the intelligence to understand his role in the executive branch. Aaron suggested i shut the fuck up so as not to make things worse. And i complied.

So as the cop returned to his car, aaron and i discussed how lame those cops were. But apparently, they were in no hurry to leave. They just sat in their patrol car behind us. Were they just waiting for us to leave so they could pull us over? Me with my beer soaked clothes was in no hurry to start driving, only to get pulled over for a DUI and spending the night in jail for having beer thrown on me. So we waited. And waited.

After about 15 minutes of sitting there pondering what to do next, the cops finally drove away. As we watched them head down the street... oh wait... what is this... they are turning around and coming back towards as. And again, they decide to park right back behind our car. So we waited some more.

After another period of waiting, they got the message that we weren't leaving any time soon. So they drove off again. I quickly started up the car, pulled into a nearby parking spot (not at a red curb) and we just got out and walked around for a bit.
