I keep signing on to do an 'End of Time part two' reaction post. But then I get halfway through and I'm not entirely sure what I want to say, and I sign out again

Oh God, I just couldn't get over my anger about Martha and Mickey. I mean, I read the spoilers months ago about the two of them being married and I just thought "no, that's stupid, and also the Unfortunate Implications, they'd know that's a bad idea" and then they do it.
And (and I've said this elsewhere, so apologies if I'm repeating myself), for absolutely no reason. Why did they have to be married? If they had to be RUNNY RUNNY ZAP ZAP ALIEN SHOOTERS together (and I'm about as comfortable with that as you are), then why can't they do it as pals, who shared a common experience in their past that led them to each other and now they work together? It just reeked of (a) the unfortunate trope where the two black characters always end up together because they're both black, and (b) this uncomfortable notion that somehow a woman needs to be coupled off with someone to complete her arc. Personally, I thought that Martha's arc was about learning that she's awesome by herself and therefore there's absolutely no need to marry her off - and if they had to marry her off, why not to Tom Ellis, since that's who she was engaged to last time we saw her?
Sorry for the hijack, but that really did annoy me, and coupled with the hollowness of the main plot that you pointed out, left me feeling quite let down by the Christmas episodes. I am excited about the new series though, because everything I'm hearing about it sounds pretty awesome.
