I AM JANE AND I LOVE TO RIDE AN ELEPHANT:

Oh, better late than never.

Day 01 | Your favourite song

Well, this is already too hard, I may as well give up now.

Favourite songs are so subjective, dependant on the day, the time of day, the time of year, what I'm doing, what I'm feeling, what I'm wearing, how my hair looks, who I'm with. The most played song on my iPod is 'Defying Gravity', but that's probably only because sometimes, when I need to feel like, actually, everything's going to be okay, because no matter what anyone else thinks I'm still ace and one day I will rule the world (ahem), I hold down the click wheel and scroll through to 4:11 (I like a bit of pre-amble, as evidenced by this extremely long-winded post), and let it play through to the end. 'SO IF YOU CARE TO FIND ME! LOOK TO THE WESTERN SKY!' and 'And nobody, in all of Oz, no Wizard that there is or was is ever gonna bring! ME! DOOOOOWN!' just make me feel better about everything.

(Side note, when Callum and I argue - usually because I'm being a whinging pain in the arse or there's something bothering him and he won't tell me I'm like, 'tell me, tell me, tell me' - it pretty much plays out like the first forty seconds of this song. Because if Callum wants something, he puts his head down and gets the job done, whereas if I want something and something gets in my way that I'm not entirely comfortable with I'm like 'UH UH, has to be on my terms'. For the record, I don't either is... unadmirable. 'Why couldn't you have stayed calm for once instead of FLYING OFF THE HANDLE' indeed!)

But the second most played song on my iPod is 'Freakshow', by The Gothic Archies, which is so much my theme tune that if ever I were to have a sitcom based on my life, it'd be prefaced by 'even geeks even other freaks hate the freakshow' and a montage of images of my in funny hats, bumping into people and falling over and causing traffic pile-ups and stuff. Have a listen, it's a good song.

And then, at the minute, I'm listening to a lot of Daniel Johnston, because Christmas makes me feel happy and sad at the same time. Happy-sad. And I'm listening to Daniel Johnston because, before that, I was listening to Karen O's cover of 'Worried Shoes' from the Where The Wild Things Are OST, because it is my last minute film of the year (more on that story later).

So, right now, my favourite song is 'Story of an Artist', from Don't Be Scared (if that song doesn't break your heart then I'm not interested in knowing you, bye).

But in half an hour's time, my favourite song will probably be 'Dance in the Dark'. Or 'December Will Be Magic Again'. Or 'Tarzan and Jane'.

And that's what is brilliant about songs.
