I'm bored today - have tons of work but no ambition to do it. Help me be totally irresponsible and ditch my work to live in LiveJournal land this afternoon.

this was one of the really hard questions... and I know you didn't think it would be. There were so many ways to read it!
I could have simply chosen my favorite publisher: Marvel, DC, Image, Top Cow, Dark Horse or one of the defunct lines from Comico, First, Aardvark-Vanaheim, gosh there are so many! A very hard question to answer. I think if my purchases were votes, then the answer would have to be Marvel, just on the sheer volume that I buy.
I could have narrowed it to a "family" of comics, like the X-Men titles, (including Astonishing XMen, X-Men, Uncanny X-Men, New X-Men: X-Men Academy, Wolverine, Gambit, Rogue, Nightcrawler, District X, Weapon X, Generation X, Ultimate X-Men) the Marvel Heroes titles (like Avengers, Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Cap and the Falcon, Marvel Team Up), the Batman or Superman or SpiderMan titles, the Fantastic Four titles, there are so many different "groups" of comics like that where you sort of need to read all of the titles to keep up with what's going on.
I could have interpreted it to mean "what title" is my favorite, and just for the record, this week I picked up 23 different titles. (Thank god it was a pay week). I needed your husband to help me carry them all home. But that one is easier to answer, the first comic I bought on my own that started this lifelong obsession was an issue of the Avengers, and I've been reading the Avengers ever since, in all of it's incarnations.
I could have interpreted it to mean which issue of which title - and that's where I started. The funny thing is that the title / issue that came to mind was this geeky little independent that I read 20 years ago, called New Triumph: featuring Northguard. Issue One cracked me up, and I have always held it in fairly high esteem. Here's the cover:
