Why is a labyrinth shaped like a brain?

Don't you just hate it when you write yourself into a corner? Evolution makes the story better, thinking, challenging, finding solutions to problems you never know you had. It's how I invented a lot of cool stuff in the past and how the story goes into unexpected wonderful directions.

But sometimes you just look at your past self and say:  "You ( Read more... )

writer's block, writing, pondering, ponder, come again?, blank page, brooding, idiot, frustrated, escape

Wow, I could have written this post. "Idiot and whore for reviews" sums it up, but yeah, everything you said.

You don't even want to know the plot permutations and head-banging I've gone through with Into White. I had to LOL when you thought Stark popping up was improbable, even if he were in the neighborhood, since my original plan was for them to stumble upon Crais. Chapter 2 took a lifetime to get out because I realized the contrived folly of it all and had to scramble to come up with something better. Now I have a plot that I think is far superior and I am really pleased with it and have loved all my musings and wanderings and yet the mechanics are foiling me at every turn. I don't want to write technical, plot unfoldy bits! I just want to write angsty mood pieces where characters think about something that's already happened! I feel like I'm writing stage directions when I advance the action and worry it sounds stupid and "overthinking" is an understatement.

Anyway.

We can do this =D

Which story is it?

I know I can do this. I've made it past so many hurdles, beaten past so many walls and managed to solve my problems every step of the way, but every new stumbling block always feels like the last and most challenging yet. Every single time.

Maybe it's just me being insecure, paranoid that my story's going to suck. You'll always find mistakes when you read back. I had that with 'The Stranger' where I went back to change a lot and wound up adding and altering so much I had to stop myself and drop it altogether, because I was just being neurotic and paranoid.

We can do this! Tell our demons to go f@ck themselves while we solve this like we solved everything else!

The story is 'The Storyteller' (as seen below in my LJ). In this gap between half seasons of Doctor Who you might want to check it out ;) When it's finished. (I'm really proud of it.)

I'm sooo close to ending it. Just a few more hurdles...

I find it's always tricky to balance action and conversation. Not too much description, but not too much talk...Keep the flow of the chapter in mind, the overall mood, the build-up, the rhythm, the theme, the climax, the characters, their emotional states, their reactions, development, and then to keep the reader on their seat, what emotion they must feel, twists and turns and the castle of aarrgghhh

Nope. Nope. I can do this. I can do this. You just watch me! ;D

I've been staring a blank page (and to be fair, acquainting myself with tumblr, which is apparently just the internet vomiting all over itself) for a couple hours now. I have some rambling sort of plotty thoughts but nothing good, and I just keep wanting to write some dark fic or mindless smut. Maybe mindless dark smut.

Your DW icons are terrific LOL

I shall read The Storyteller when it is finished - I withhold my feedback for your own good ;)

Damn you! Now I'm going to have to descale my teapot instead of writing!

Seriously...smut counts as writing...doesn't it? But I guess it would have to be postable smut and not my private stash...

this might be an improvement. Just playing around with settings and embed codes and whatever. Discovering lj. Hope it works.

Yay!

Spaced. Still my one true love, despite everything Farscape and Doctor Who. I wouldn't even dare to write Spaced fanfiction, out of fear I might do my favourite characters injustice. Spaced is brilliant.

...

What'd you mean I should get back to work?

http://thefulcrum.livejournal.com/ - this site has some really nice custom layouts if you've got a paid account (it's where I got mine).

And here is a DW community if you don't know about it already - http://doctorwho.livejournal.com/
