The Devil didst leap and spew furth all manner of terriblesome lies
That the women of the fields didst moan in their labor to bear it in this world
And that I, for mineself, could not seem to clasp mine hand round his Book any longer
So that it dropped to the hellish place before his clatt'ring hooves
'It is he,' I didst hear a voice yell hoarse, 'that takes from all decency!'
'It is he who saps ambition and dreams, milling them for his own wicked ways!'
'It is he who has nigh a qualm against felling the purest among us.'
Then with a shriek the Devil didst appear to vapourize, leaving only me
I did think the voice had been of my belonging, but as I dropped to mine knees
I took the truth from the blasted Earth and didst recognize it was He
He, forsooth and for sure it was He, none other than a man, and Wicked
And I didst weep
