I made a new video. It is my best, I believe, but you had best read this summary first, because no one ever seems to understand what I'm driving at with my videos.
Outgrowing Batman is an impossibility. He grows with you, maturing in step. In your childhood, it is enough for him to be the good guy, the strong man, a simple hero to look up to and model your own imaginative excursions after. In your adulthood, you and he can regard each other eye to eye, and see the grime of life mirrored in one another. No longer that invincible giant, he becomes a common man - no superpower but will - who struggles for something he's not sure is right. He is as troubled as his enemies; in fact, he is nothing if not the exact reflection of his greatest headache and heartache, the Joker. Though their pictures are reversed, still they take the same shape. And in the boiling dissipation of the clear-cut good and bad of youth, the sexuality of age arises, manifesting itself in a twisted romance between the Dark Knight and the Clown Prince of Crime. The brave story and characters that once colored your Sunday mornings fall down and down into the muck of uncertainty, hopelessness, and perversion.
And if this is how perception alters with the years, what can be said about the human condition...?
It's set to the song 'Closer' by Kings of Leon, and the video follows the lyrics very closely. However, you really need to know going in what the lyrics are, because though he's got such a great voice, you'll be hard pressed to understand just what KoL's singer is saying. So here they are.
Stranded in this spooky town
Stoplights are swaying and the phone lines are down
This floor is crackling cold
She took my heart, I think she took my soul
With the moon I run
Far from the carnage of the fiery sun
Driven by the strangled vein
Showing no mercy I do it again
Open up your eye
You keep on crying, baby
Ill bleed you dry
The skies are blinking at me
I see a storm bubbling up from the sea
And it's coming closer
You, shimmy shook my bone
Leaving me stranded all in love on my own
What do you think of me
Where am I now? Baby where do I sleep
Feel so good but I'm old
2000 years of chasing taking its toll
And it's coming closer
Armed with all that, you are ready to head in! And if you ever watch it on YouTube instead of in this embedded player, please click the "watch in HD" link under the bottom right corner of the video. It is so much better that way. I can't stand the so-called "normal quality" version YouTube created on me. This version here is HD.
It's called All in Love. And it's somber.
