New Year's Survey
Stolen from Monica, via her blogspot. Warning: I'm kind of depressing sometimes.

1. What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?
I went to California, I also attended more weddings than I ever have before. Friend weddings are much better than family weddings, even though I love my family!

2. Did you keep your New Years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't make resolutions it seems like they are just something else to make you feel bad about.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
No. I don't think so.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Thankfully, no.

5. What countries did you visit?
Wah Wah Wah... I got to travel to Maine and California, both firsts for me.

6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
Job security, financial stability, a significant other, I don't know...

7. What date from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
October 18th, my first (of hopefully many) ping pong tournament at my friend Cartland's in Virginia. He guest hosted while his mom and dad were away and Eleni and I helped. So much fun.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
This is sadly hard... I saved Christmas!?!?!

9. What was your biggest failure?
That would have to go to the I called a relationship this summer. Though I wouldn't exactly say that I was the one responsible for fucking it all up. But it was an utter and complete failure, so it counts.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I keep getting sick every month or two. Nothing serious, just crud and mucus and stuff. Annoying, but not too bad.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Well, I bought really expensive glasses that I like and no one else notices... I bought a pretty sweet vacuum if you are into that sort of thing. The prize has to go my new grown up bed. WEE! Special runner up prize for the replacement laptop battery which allows me to make my laptop, get this, portable!

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Obama! IDK, I mean I don't know anyone else that did something that amazing so I'll have to go global instead of local.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Kate, the cheater. George W. for oh, everything.. and all the people who make my job really annoying at times.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Rent, it's not as bad as others but it's three times most rent in Holland, let's just say that. Bills. New Mattress, glasses.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
I got really really excited about going to San Diego. I fucking loved it there. I also loved Maine a bit and really really really dug Virginia. New York is kind of sucking my soul out and I'm feeling restless.

16. What song will always remind you of 2008?
Bleeding Love by Leona Lewis, Womanizer by Britney Spears, I'm Yours by Jason Mraz, and So What by Pink. Creator by Santogold. Damaged by Danity Kane or however you spell that.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? sadder, at this point last year I felt in control of more things and more hopeful. Since they didn't work out, I guess I feel less confident and therefore sadder.
ii. thinner or fatter? fatter, more just the same for the most part.
iii. richer or poorer? poorer.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
working, ha, I'm like the opposite of the rest of the world. Loving. Emotionally nourishing myself, getting out of the house, maintaining friendships.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
I don't regret watching tv, but I do it too much when I have nothing else to do. I stay in the house way too much. I moped a lot this year but then again this year was kind of shitty, so...

20. How did you spend Christmas?
Saving it!! Ha. I was in Michigan with my family. I had one christmas with Mom and Duane and then we all had one with Grandma, my Uncle Ed and his family and my cousin Kelly and her husband, my new cousin, Randy. When I came home I had Steinwayukkahmas with Amy, Winnie, Steve, and Amy's friend who was visiting. Amy made latkes and brisket and we looked for the last 8 clues in her hanukkah scavenger hunt and opened presents and had a good time. Such fun.

22. Did you fall in love in 2008?
Wow, this is going to be really sad when I say I wish I didn't.

23. How many one-night stands?
Ha, uh.. I guess you could call it one though not really... Awkward ongoing nothingness time!

24. What was your favorite TV program?
House, Weeds, Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice and I'm still into all the CSI's and Law and Orders even if Bridget has abandoned them. Oh and Numbers and NCIS and Ghost Whisperer... Yeah. I like TV, sue me.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Sadly, I think so.

26. What was the best book you read?
I read a great book by Murakami that I LOVED but now have bad associations with. This was also the year of Twilight and the beginning of reading the Strand 80 from bottom to top.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
not the ukulele.

28. What did you want and get?
New glasses. A new president!

29. What did you want and not get?
Good will towards men, increased patience. All those things that I still want. Duh. :)

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
I don't know, Slumdog Millionaire? Wall-e? Dark Knight? Twilight (not really)? Penelope was good too.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 28. I went out several times with several small groups which was awesome. I told a bartender that Bridget was a nazi and that her money was no good. That didn't work but was awesome. Maybe you had to be drunk at the time... I thought I was getting a power outage so that we didn't have to deal with Elmer Gantry, but the stupid power came back on and we had to do it...

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Getting a job with benefits that pays enough. Finding someone who loves me and thinks that's enough.

comfortable and unstained.

34. What kept you sane?
George, and sometimes Frank except when they drive me crazy. (they're cats.) Special human shout outs to Cartland, Bridget, Eleni, Andrew, and many others.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Eh. I don't really care. I'm sure there are some, but it's not really that important right now.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?

Nick is in the Marshall Islands and I almost never talk to him anymore. All my sisters scattered to the winds and my family who is states away as usual.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
Prob. Amy my newest roommate and Frank the cat she brings in the situation.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008:
I maintain the ability to survive, but eventually feeling like you are surviving is really draining.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
"Always, I know, You'll be at my show. Watching. Waiting. Commiserating. .... Late night, come home. Work sucks, I know." All the Small Things- Blink 182

"I'm tired of being what you want me to be, feeling so faithless lost under the surface, I don't know what you're expecting of me." Numb by Linkin Park
