Hello there, I'm kind of a lurker. I thought I'd post a few recent photos of my babies.
I have had Fuu and Rin since last May, but they were born the December prior. They were a trio, but Yuki passed away in October after a rough bout of a respiratory infection (she was kind of a runt). They were all from a breeder in Maryland.
Fuu - as in Fuu dogs. She's the biggest.
Rin - the word for the sound a bell makes. She makes a lot of racket when she's angry.
Yuki - snow. She was an ivory satin.
Yesterday we went to Petco planning on just looking if we saw nothing really special. We wound up taking home three little girls: Kuro, Tenka, and Futeki.
Kuro - black (she has a white streak on her back).
Futeki - it means wreckless or fearless. And she's the biggest and looks somewhat like Fuu. And Teki alone means rival.
Tenka - she has a white tail tip. This reminds us of a fuse. And it apparently means ignition.
Okay. First thing to note, no I don't actually know Japanese. I just like Japan. So if these words are wrong or something, I don't necessarily care. I thought they sounded like good names and I like them. I used an online English -> Japanese dictionary and then double checked to see alternate meanings of the Japanese word that came up.
Second. I don't know if it's clear in the following photos, because Fuu and Rin were in the terrarium before the new mice, but now they're in a different set of tanks (the type that have tubes connecting, two of those connected). So no I'm not putting new mice in with older mice. I'm waiting for the recommended three week quarantine. After that we may not even introduce them just because of the huuuge size difference.
Third. I so much prefer a breeder, but it just wasn't feasible this year.
There is an unfortunate possibility that I feel with petstore mice of a boy getting to any of the girls. And unlike Petsmart, Petco keeps boys AND girls. But no Petsmart I have been to in the last year has mice anymore. I read that the gestation time is three weeks, so I suppose if anything happened like that, it will be apparent during the quarantine and we'll have a little talk with Petco. Haha.

(Fuu and Rin now have a brand new wheel that is red, the babies were going to get a new one, but there were none available when we got them, so they have the old wheel temporarily).
We replaced the wheel because after so much use it got beyond fixable loudness. It's still not that bad. So yes, the wheel in this picture and the above are the same.
