Tattoo question

Hey all,
I have a few questions for those of you who have tattoos. Do they scab up after they are done? If so, how long does the scab last? What happens if you pick at it? Also, after you have a tattoo and it heals, does the skin feel or look any different? Also, does sunburning or tanning effect the tattoo in any way?

EDIT: Also, what should I look for when I'm looking for a decent tattoo shop/artist? Is there a reliable way to gage someone's style/skill/experience? Or some kind of industry standard?
