Ok, Jenn wanted me to write this up, so here I go.
((this isn't proofread, so forgive any glaring errors, please))
I work at a thrift store. I work in my own office in the back selling books online. I am usually left pretty much to my own devices and I manage pretty well I think. This story is about a guy who has decided in the last week to make it his mission to annoy me I guess.
The shenanigans started about 2 weeks ago. My office is near the break room, you can hear the music that I play on my ipod dock (that my sweety
soliloquy bought for me because she is awesome!) This new guy started about 2 weeks ago (I am not sure if he is a volunteer or an actual paid worker, we get both) and he stopped at my office door during his break and commented that he liked my music. I didn't mind this. I sing along with my music at work, and I get a lot of people who comment on both my music and my singing, this doesn't bother me. However, the next day he asks me to put some music on his ipod. Actually, he doesn't even ask, he says "You need to give me some of that music on my mp3 player" o_0 Naturally, I refuse. Mainly because of the time it takes to transfer songs, and also because I was at work, and I didn't even know this guy! Instead of letting it drop like a NORMAL person, he proceeds to interrogate me as to why I won't do it. I inform him that I don't want to, and also that it is illegal. He tells me it's not that big of a crime, but then his break is over, so he goes away thankfully. I think that's the end of it, but I am sadly wrong.
The next day, he comes in during his break and starts harassing me again to put songs on his mp3 player. He tells me that I'm being racist by not doing it (BTW, he's African American and I'm Caucasian) That really irks me and makes me quickly snap at him that I am not and that I wouldn't put songs on ANYONE else's ipod because it's ILLEGAL. *grumps* He proceeds to correct himself and tell me that it's racist because music is the international language and it's "racist" to not share it. I try to explain that people paid money to MAKE this music, and that if I give him the music, I'm stealing from them.
I swear, it's like arguing with a brick wall though. He continues to harass me for the next few days. I don't know WHAT he expects to accomplish by this. If I've already told you NO several times, then WHY IN THE WORLD would continually harassing me make me change my mind?? If anything, it's going to make me more deadset against NOT sharing music with you.
Anyway, last Friday he comes to the door of my office. By this time I've decided to just ignore him when he comes by. Here is how the conversation goes:
Him - Hey music-lady, (that's what he calls me 0_o) how you doing?
Me - *not turning from my work on the computer* hey.
Him - I said How you doing?
Me - fine
Him - You should look at me when you talk to me! How ARE you?
Me - I'm BUSY *not turning from computer, hoping he will get the hint*
Him - No, you should say "Hello Stephen. I am fine." That is what is polite.
Me - *sighes, hoping he will go away* uh-huh.
Him - But I forgot, you're not a Christian.
Me - *this gets my attention, I turn around and glare at him*
Him - You're like a Wiccy, right?
Me - *angrily* A Wiccan? No, I'm not a Wiccan, but what the HELL does that have to do with anything?
*he scurries off scared and I return to my work*
I haven't seen him since then or I would have ripped him a new one. *grumbles* Those of you who know me know that I RARELY swear at work. This guy just really got under my skin with the Wiccan comment. *grumbles*
