Catch-22 is perhaps the most superb book I have ever read. It manages to convey messages about individuals and society without ever stating them directly. Wit. The ability to manipulate language deftly enough that words are simply words, but pages of them create abstract ideas and feelings. I cried and laughed out loud many times while reading, which is rare for me. A dip of the wing to Heller.
