Something happened last night that doesn't usually happen. Well, more accurately, it happened this morning. Anyway, I had a dream, and miraculously, I can remember most of what happened. At least I think it was most anyway, being that I don't really know how much there was to remember. Irregardless, here's what I remember:
Me and some of my friends from high school were in a garage. Not a garage I recognized. It was a very light beige. I guess they were having band practice for a concert that would be held in that garage. I forget what happened after that, but later we went back to the garage and there were a bunch of people waiting for the show to start. I watched in a corner for a bit. Then there was another blank spot. Then me and one of my friends went to a restaurant that served hamburgers. It had some games for children. I think there was a ballroom. Only the restaurant wasn't big and open, it had a lot halls that went places. Anyway I somehow got a hamburger. I think my mom and dad were there, in addition to one of my other friend's parents, and I think my friend. So I sat my hamburger down somewhere, then went off somewhere else. When I came back, there was a person in the seat where I sat my hamburger down, and they were eating something, so I assumed it was my hamburger, I tapped them on the shoulder and they insisted it was theirs. So I looked around for it and couldn't find it, so I assumed the worst. Some bastard ate it. So we all made our way back to the car, which happened to be a station wagon, even though neither my family nor my friend's owns one. Seeing as I hadn't eaten, I was feeling almost woozy. My friend was in the backseat, I only saw some of him, his mom was trying to get what looked to be a liposuction thingy in him, then she started to drain him. My mom was telling her how to do it, mom is a nurse after all. So then we started driving, Dad was driving, I was in the passenger seat. We started going through this big city. Now the thing about this city, is that it looked similar to one I had in another dream a long time ago. Weird. We passed a large stadium, some more buildings. There was also a barn there, complete with donkey. At the time I was thinking, why the hell is there a barn in the middle of this city? I asked dad if the city was Chicago. He said it was. That was cool, I've never been to Chicago before, Always kind of wanted to go. After the city, we started driving up this mountain pass. I can't remember what happened after that, but somehow, we ended up in a hallway in a house. The house was pretty dark, very haunted house looking. I think there was a railing on one side, then some windows with that were covered, but an eerie dark purple and green was coming from them. The thing is that we were still moving as if driving. Though I think We were on a small platform that Dad was driving. Anyway, the hallway was going upward. Because we had so much weight concentrated to the back of the platform, We were having trouble getting up the incline. I moved slightly back, which caused the platform to start moving back, dad seemed peeved, so I moved forward and we just barely made it over, then, I noticed that the farther we got down the hallway, all the sides started closing in. It was also had corners we kept twisting around. Soon we got to one I knew we wouldn't be able to get through. I started yelling to dad to turn back, but he kept going. I yelled some more, then I think there was a flash of light, and I woke up.
Creepy, yes? I thought so. That is, if you're still reading. I apologize, that may not have been the most enthralling thing I've ever written, but It's cool to me.
Anyway, seeing as I could remember most of the dream, I felt the only reasonable thing would be to head to the internet and figure out what it meant. Mankind, in case you haven't noticed, has been studying dreams since 4000 B.C. So obviously, they must have arrived at a few conclusions here and there. The basic jist is that dreams are hugely symbolic of your unconcious. What they consist of is thoughts, ideas and urges you repress when you are awake, but as soon as you go to sleep, your unconcious mind comes out to play, and you're just there for the ride. Unless of course you gain control of the dream, in which case this is referred to as lucid dreaming. Anyway, I went to a few sites to analyse. Here's what I turned up from the symbols:
Garage: To dream that you are in a garage, signifies a period of inactivity and idleness in your life. You may feel that you have no direction or guidance toward achieving your goals.
Friends: To see your friends in your dream, signifies aspects of your personality that you have rejected, but are ready to integrate these rejected part of yourself. The relationships you have with those around you are important in learning about yourself. Additionally, this symbol foretells of happy tidings from them and the arrival of good news. To see your childhood friend in your dream, signifies regression into your past where you had no responsibilities and things were much simpler and carefree. You may be wanting to escape the the pressures and stresses of adulthood. Consider the relationship you had with this friend and the lessons that were learned. Alternatively, the childhood friend may be suggesting that you have been acting in a childish manner and you need to start acting like an adult. To dream that your best friend is dying, suggests that some aspect or quality that your best friend possess is dying within your own self.
Does getting lyposuction count as dying?
Hamburger: To see or eat a hamburger in your dream, suggests that you are lacking some emotional, intellectual, or physical component you need in order to feel whole again. You may be feeling unsatisfied with some situation or relationship. It is also symbolic of your experiences and how you need to learn from them. Look at the big picture.
Restaurant: To dream that you are in a restaurant, suggests that you are feeling overwhelmed by decisions/choices that you need to make in your life. Alternatively, it indicates that you are seeking for emotional nourishment outside of your social support system.
Feeling Tired: To dream that you are tired, suggests that you are feeling emotionally drained and stressed. Dreams about being tired usually reflect how you really feel in your waking state.
Dad driving while I'm In the passenger seat: To dream that someone else is driving you, represents your dependence on the driver. You are not in control of your life and following the goals of others instead of your own. If you are driving from the passenger side of a car, then it suggests that you are trying to gain control of the path that your life is taking. You are beginning to make your own decisions.
Farm: To see or live on a farm in your dream, suggests that you need to develop aspect of yourself and utilize your potential. You are ready for growth.
Driving up a mountain pass: To dream that you drive off a mountain road, suggests that the higher you climb in life, the harder it is to stay at the top. You feel that your advanced position is a precarious one. It takes hard work to remain at the top. You may also feel that you are not able to measure up to the expectations of others.
City: To see a city in your dream, signifies a sense of community and your social environment.
House: To see a house in your dream, represents your own soul and self. Specific rooms in the house indicate a specific aspect of your psyche. In general, the attic represents your intellect, the basement represents the unconscious, etc. If the house is empty, then it indicates feelings of insecurity. If the house is shifting, then it suggests that you are going through some personal changes and changing your belief system. To see an old, run-down house in your dream, represents your old beliefs, attitudes and how you used to think or feel. A situation in your current life may be bringing about those same old attitudes and feelings. Alternatively, the old house may symbolize your need to update you mode of thinking. To dream of a haunted house, signifies unfinished emotional business, related to your childhood family, dead relatives, or repressed memories and feelings.
Hallway: To see a hallway in your dream, symbolizes the beginning of a path that you are taking in life or a journey into the unknown and self exploration. It represents spiritual, emotional, physical, or mental passages in your life. It is indicative of a transitional phase in your life.
Isn't this stuff awesome? I think it is. Its nice getting to know my unconcious mind, we don't talk enough. So, what do I think, taking this information into consideration, my dream means? For me, I think it represents my want to transfer to Concordia, and that my parents are uncertain about the idea. These things seem to say that I am in a transitional phase, and thats pretty true. Moving to Concordia, getting an apartment with Keri in downtown Montreal, being three hours away from my parents, its a major step towards becoming independent of them. I know that they will be iffy on it. I think it also means that I still recognize them as being in control, as evidenced by dad driving the car while im in the passenger seat. Another pervasive theme is me having to confront adulthood, and whether I am prepared to. I think the end of the dream is the creepiest though. Because dad wanted me to go through that part of the hallway I didn't, and then I think there was a flash of light. Was I supposed to go down the hallway? Or was my unwillingness to good, as it means I am becoming my own person, and the flash is me being lifted to a better place? I have no idea.
I have been wondering lately if I subconciously hate my parents. I think this dream might be somewhat suggesting I do. Or maybe I don't hate them, I am just on a path completely different from theirs, though they want me to go down theirs. Its up to me to take control of my life. I can go down my hallway or theirs. Its up to me. Damn this is spooky.
