So, while I wouldn't exactly consider myself the most knowledgeable fashionista in the world (or anywhere...near that), I do have a very special appreciation for the fashion industry in its entirety. The positive aspects, at least, though you have to take the good with the bad sometimes. It's all art, whether you understand it or not, and I just so happen to love art.
More recently I've had people inform me that knowing models by name and loving fashion is shallow and stupid... Now, I'm not the kind of person who is ultra sensitive about these sorts of things by any means - it's a hobby, not a lifestyle, but needless to say, I was slightly insulted. I mean, just because I enjoy fashion and the various models of the industry doesn't mean that I'm suddenly campaigning for eating disorders among these models or supporting the thought that only beautiful people succeed in the world. Unfortunately, it seems that my friends think this of me. I happen to think it's a fun ability to be able to name models I see! Buuuut that's just my opinion.
And entirely...not what this post was supposed to be about. No matter! I figure instead of talking about my life all the time, I'll share things that I like as well (first part of this post aside...my complaining is over). That way, I get to make a Livejournal scrapbook.
I practically live on The Fashion Spot, despite not having an account of my own to access some of the cooler pictures and whatnot, but I still save anything interesting that I come across. And so I've uploaded some of my favorite dresses found in my adventures to share with my two friends, hahah. Most of them are from couture shows, particularly Dior - but don't worry, in future posts I'll appreciate the other talented designers too. This is more of a...test, per se. I'm not the best at handling new Livejournal yet, so this is my experiment.
Agatha Ruiz de la Prada; Fall 2009.
These two dresses are crazy to me...I mean, I can't imagine anyone wearing them out anywhere, except maybe to a costume party. But still, I adore them. They're almost like Alice In Wonderland on even MORE drugs.
Alexander McQueen
I just ADORE this dress. The black overlay is a symmetrical wet dream. It's almost an optical illusion, and I would die to have it in my...couture collection. *cough* Currently, the collection is at zero, no big deal.
Christian Lacroix; Haute Couture; Fall 2005.
The details on this gown are mindblowing. My mind is blown. It's weird, because the way her veil looks in this picture almost makes it appear as though she's in a glass case, which seems appropo. Also, the blue ribbon is the perfect touch.
Dolce & Gabbana; FW 2007.
Although there is so much drama revolving around Snejana Onopka and her ever changing weight, she wears this dress beautifully, and the details on it are astounding. I mean, not saying that I liked all the outfits in this collection (take the disco ball of a dress behind her), but this one I found really pretty and feminine, while still being edgy.
Dior Couture; Spring 2007.
This has been my favorite dress forever and ever. Just LOOK at the craftsmanship...the thing is a gorgeous beast. The overall styling on Morgane is just too perfect - of course, this is one of my favorite ever Dior couture shows, so that helps.
Dior Couture; 2005.
Now this dress is flattering on no one, but the inspiration and execution of it has me totally enthralled. The harlequin/court jester look cannot fail!
Dior Couture; Fall 2008.
While I'm not the biggest fan of the belt on this one, the shape of it is really soft and pretty. The eyebrows are wacky, but I can look past them on Bruna. It just looks like a sparkler or something, without bordering on disco tacky.
Dior; FW 2009.
The color of this one could not be better, even though I'm not generally a "pink" person. I love the sort of Indian sari feel it has, though I have to admit it looks more like a maternity gown than anything. NOT that this is a bad thing...if only all pregnant women could wear Dior.
Dior Couture; FW 2005.
Angelic. Really the only word to describe it. The headpiece alone is enough to make my jaw drop. Lily Cole, how you do things to me...
Valentino; SS 2007.
Last but not least, Caroline Trentini looking STUNNING in classic Valentino red. The girl has more curves than I know what to do with, which is perfect for the dress. On any skeletal figure, it would look dreadfully sad. The fabric design on the front is just subtle enough to add a little something something without taking away from the dress underneath. Beeeeautiful!
Well, that's all for now. In closing, I LOVE DRESSES. Unfortunately, I'm not too eloquent today.
courtneybelle can vouch for me, as we both stayed up from dusk till dawn...doesn't do friendly things to the brain.
Much love, gentle viewers.
