There it is -
The first blush.

Frost was wrong.
Nature's first green is red.
Red as my blood.
That's the color of the swelling leaf buds
the haze on the twig.
Red blood

from the deep underground heart
by the Sun.
The ancients knew true.
The Sun is the Ruler of hearts and blood.
Even the dark heart of Earth.
Even the chill blood of Trees.
