ok before we hit midnite lemme jus say a quick happy b-day to _kmf_ ... hope it was a good one!
ok so i've been watching the democratic national convention since last nite... is it weird that i enjoy speeches this much? ok so best speech yesterday hands down, was bill clinton... he was self-deprecating yet so confident and such a presence! i was seriously hanging on to his every word... i mean hillary came on first and i thought she was awesome anf then bill came and now i don't even remember what hilary said -_-;; so yeah good stuff...
out of the ppl who spoke tonite, i have to say that obama guy was pretty damn awesome... if any of you live in illinois i urge u to elect this guy to the senate...he's frickin awesome... very 'real', inspiring, idealistic... ron reagan was pretty good too but i really feel like obama could run for president himself in 8 years... i think they have the speeches on file at cspan.org so i urge you to check em out... ted kennedy's speech was pretty generic... he didn't mention kerry much.. it seemed like a speech he could give anywhere.. i jus found it really funny that they were playing 'clocks' by coldplay as he was walking to the podium... like what's that all about?
so all this politics and speeches had me totally wishing i could write more speeches for relena..but anything i wirte prob wouldn't sound half as good as the speeches i hear from these ppl... and as coley_merrin said earlier to me on IM.. if we could jus borrow a smidgen of that talent we would be set... but yeah so i recently wrote this little speech as an opening for that companion fic i'm writing and the DNC put me in the mood to pull it out again and then i thought i'd post it here to see what you guys thought so,
“There is an old song lyric that says, ‘every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.’ So, I’d like to celebrate this day not as the anniversary of the end of the war, but as the anniversary of the beginning of peace. It is important for us to realize that every morning is the beginning of a new day, and every new day is a new beginning. And in that spirit, I would like to announce that as of my 18th birthday I will be assuming the post of Foreign Minister. And even though I will only be moving to the office next door to my old one, I look forward to starting anew, with a fresh look at what I can do for the Earth Sphere. I encourage all of you to do the same. I know it has been hard for all of us to grow accustomed to this world without war, for although it is a better world to live in, it is different. And change is hard. We have lost our jobs, our homes and our loved ones. But we must remember that the people we lost live in us, and we take our homes with us no matter where we go, and every person has the ability to contribute to society no matter what occupation they are in. So, I ask you all to look at this day as a day of rebirth, as a day rife with endless possibilities and potential.
Remember, today is the first day of the rest of our lives."
