a friend wanted me to read madame bovary again, so that she could share her thoughts with me on the subject. i thought i'd read it, but in doing so (what i thought was) again, realized that i'd probably only seen the movie. in spite of it seeming somewhat "romantic," that is one seriously depressing read! even more depressing is the fact that in spite of being a "romantic heroine," the lady has not a whit about her that's likable, and not even much that's relatable.

i hate reading heavy, depressing things right before bed. must take a warm bath to decompress, and find some other reading material to wipe it from my mind.
