Paul stared down at his feet not baring being able to look into his imprint eyes. It would hurt him too much. He knew this was for the best as much as it killed him, he knew he had to leave her, to protect her for himself, from the monster he could become. He had gotten so angry he nearly phased in her presence. The shifter didn’t even want to think what would have happened if he hadn’t stormed out. The situation with Emily and her scar replayed in his mind. He couldn’t live with himself if he hurt her that way.
“Why, Paul, tell me why? Why, are you leaving me like this,” her voiced filtered the air. Her cheeks stained with tears as she hit his chest repeated. “You promised you would never leave me!”
Closing his eyes he felt his world collapse. He slowly detached her from him and turned his back to her. He knew one day she would understand and he just hoped she could forgive him.
“So that’s it, you’re not telling me why! I have a right to know, Paul!”
“You should know that you deserve so much better than me, Bella.”
