Man drives onto Sky Harbor airport, disrupts flights
PHOENIX A man allegedly driving a stolen pickup crashed through security gates and drove onto one of the runways at Sky Harbor airport in Phoenix this morning.
The incident temporarily halted flights in and out of the airport.
The pursuit ended when the man crashed through another fence and was rammed at that time by two police cars. After police surrounded the pickup, officers got the man out of the pickup and took him into custody.
Just before the pursuit ended, a police motorcycle officer was knocked off his bike.
Police had pursued the man for about an hour before he drove into the airport.
The morning rush-hour pursuit covered some 40 miles as the man drove around the city.
Early on, marked police units on the ground ended the pursuit, leaving it to a police helicopter to follow the pickup.
