OOC: About M
I'm absolutely terrible about writing biographies for my characters, so I'm going to present a couple of Wikipedia links and then offer a bit of information about how I'll be portraying M.

About M the character
About M as played by Judi Dench
This is very much the female movie version of the character, as portrayed by Dame Judi Dench (the fellow in the icon? is not my M). I'm taking her from her canon just a while after the events of Casino Royale (the 2006 version, not the satire). Her real name is never given in canon, although it's hinted in the most recent film that the initial "M" stands for something -- whether it's her first or last name, however, we don't find out. (And I promise, that's the only spoiler I'll give out.)
M's personality is not a terribly warm or friendly one. She takes her responsibility very seriously, and has little patience for screw-ups. Any emotional attachment she feels toward the people she knows is hidden beneath a no-nonsense, sharp-tongued exterior. M may be small in stature, but she's got teeth and isn't afraid to use them. However, in day-to-day interaction, while she may be brusque she isn't mean, and she has respect for people who display intelligence and integrity.
In the classroom, M's students will receive the same sort of treatment that her underlings at MI-6 receive -- the expectation of respect, obedience, and cooperation. She will not take kindly to anyone questioning her authority, or playing pranks. (This doesn't mean that students can't do either of those things, just that even if M appreciates a good prank, she'll never let on that she does. *g*)
