A/N: I'm new to this. And I'm amazingly afraid about posting this.

When it first started, it wasn't that bad. It was just the occasional case of looking at your team-members and thinking that you should probably try a little harder to keep up. It was just the odd habit of staying an hour later and giving your typical half-smile goodbye wave as you promised to meet the others somewhere. What was it that Jonghyun had said? “'I'll just catch up...' That's becoming your catchphrase, Kibum!” That was before the invention of Key - back when everyone was testing their ground around each other. You'd been bold in your introduction, giving a cheeky grin and wave before Jonghyun had stood up and announced that he was “everyone's hyung (not including Onew, who's my hyung)!” You'd determined then that it was okay be a little bit homesick and that you were maybe a little bit tired of having to wake up at five-thirty in the morning, so it would be all right to cut down on the training for a bit. After all, the big bosses at SM Entertainment had told you that you were “something special”, so it wasn't really like you needed to practice so much.

That was until the arrival of the band's fifth and final member, Taemin. Suddenly, you were all thrown into the spotlight, going from five in the morning till ten in the evening and all that anyone could talk about was how well Taemin could dance, how they'd never seen anything like it before.

It wasn't that you disliked the boy. He was nice enough, if a little quiet. But all of a sudden, you weren't dancing at the front any more and you weren't the youngest in the group. So you made the decision to put in more practice, to put in the extra spin after the flip to the side. All in the name of show business, after all. If the band failed (which it had the possibility of doing; nothing was set in stone at SM Entertainment), you'd have to find your own way, so it was important to stand out. If anyone noticed, they never said anything, save for the occasional joke at your expense which you took to heart but passed off with a laugh and a smile.

You've been staying behind after practice everyday for the past month and a half. Every single day, you've been getting up at four in the morning and going to bed at midnight. You are tired, you are hungry and you are lonely, but most importantly, you hurt. Every single part of you hurts; from your knee where you fell and bruised it to inside; the ever-present knowledge that the rest of the band think of you as snobbish, as a “diva”.

He stands there at the door frame, eyes searching yours in the mirror as you pack up for the night. It has long since passed midnight and you have swapped the stereo in favour for a set of headphones, sure of the fact that the other members of SHINee are probably all sleeping. This is your unspoken secret, your sacrifice.

“I can't get that final twist,” you say jokingly, but a little bit of the pressure that you are feeling seeps into your words, a little bit of that emotion hidden underneath the joke. “How is it that you guys are so perfect at dancing?”

Jonghyun takes a step forward, his face serious for once. Unexpectedly, he puts a hand on your shoulder and it surprises you that you find it feels comfortable there, though you've been avoiding personal contact for a long time.“We're not. And you'll never be perfect, Key. But I think perfect is a tiny bit boring,” he says to you and you find that your heart hurts inside but also you find that the tiny bit of you that was aching has maybe begun to heal.
