At the risk of stating the obvious...you're back! And you brought fic and discussion!
I haven't read DM yet (and won't for quite a while - waiting for the paperback), but it sounds like most of its events will become apocrypha for you? Much like, say, Richie's death in Highlander or anything post-towerjump in Buffy have become for some fans? In other words: denial; a swell river in Egypt, and a neat place for a houseboat :).
I'm still holding out the hope that Edward will drag the next book back from the shark-jumping precipice, rather than getting chewed up a la Quint in Jaws.
Not apocrypha for me... I'm just annoyed. Also, there's really nothing to disregard in this book (except #7 above) because *nothing happened*. Well, Anita had sex several times. Since I don't write sex into my stories, it's all moot to me.
I'm still holding out the hope that Edward I read something in LKH's blog that terrified me about Edward coming back. Do you read her blog? Try the July 31 entry.
I was reading her blog for the frist time earlier. I think I can see why/how that would trrify you about Edward coming back. I think it terrifies me too.
I'd missed that entry...eep! Um, um, Anita hasn't been with Rafael yet, has she? *throws sacrificial rat-king into the ravenous maw of Anita Sue, and prays*
See, now I have this twisted image of the last scene of Jaws. Anita Sue (as opposed to Anita *Blake*, the strong woman I liked) was, of course, the shark. Hopefully Edward wasn't Quint, but...anyway, onwards:
Jean-Claude and Richard paddle away from the wreckage of the 'ship, to the distant shoreline of Plot. Richard: "Think the tide's with us?" Jean-Claude: "Keep kicking." There is a slight lull in the conversation as they apply themselves to kicking. Richard: "I used to hate the ardeur..." Jean-Claude: "I can't imagine why." And...fade out.
I wish that her blog had a way for us to comment so we could say something along the lines of..."Let's pare down on the multiple partners thing! Rein it in a wee bit, get down to like 3000 men." Might be refreshing.
I get so disappointed with the books because I REMEMBER how it used to be. Pre Sue-ism. I own first editions from the beginning Guilty Pleasures, heck bloody bones got me through my gran's funeral...sigh. Oh well, I guess I better mourn the good old days because it appears they will not be coming back.
At this point, I don't really want to say anything to LKH. It's her series, I suppose... meh.
I'm not sure if the ardeur changed everything, or if everything changed at about the time the ardeur came into play. The books were more self-contained in the old days, whereas now they're serial installments, which can be okay in their own way, but it's not really being carried off, esp. in DM. C'est la vie.
Yes, I realize it is her series, but I wish someone would tell her. The bad editing in the old days was part of the charm, I adored the continuity issues, however the complete derailment of the main character's character seems a bit extreme...but obviously it is her vision, all I can do is whinge. lol
I don't mind serial intallment type of books, when 700 pages gets used as a commercial for the next book it seems somewhat pointless that is all.
It must be said that I love fanfiction and have for a long time, but when you are looking forward to the next chapter of Inevitable (as wonderful as it is, and it is!) more than the next Book in the 'actual' series, it says something I think.
I'm just hoping that it's a fighting scene that she's writing with Edward in it. He's a strong character and I don't want him just used as another random shag. *sigh*
my best bet for that is rafael, and i think i spelled his name wrong. reason is because she's dabbling in the rats now and laurell mentioned edward in the next breath and it sounded natural, so if it was edward making her squick, then it wouldn't be so casual.
