See - things like that make me glad I didn't waste the $19 to get it at B&N yesterday.

It's so dumb, because I really wanted to like this book, but there's no hint of a plot so far. Besides the Anita's powers are growing at the speed of light thing. I love the Anita Blake universe (as is apparent from most of my fanfic) but I can't see a point to this book so far.

Of course, I think you and I both belong to the "get them in the first five paragraphs or they won't read it" school of writing.

So yeah, a little bummed about this.

You know, I didn't even read Micah. Just skipped to the end, did a little 'whoa' over the major new plot twist, and cast it aside. I haven't been able to get into the AB books since she started making AB into super-invincible-solution-to-all-of-lifes-ills girl. lol.

Sorry it disappointed you, tho.

It's interesting, actually, in that since I've started writing longer plot-filled fics, I'm getting more finicky with my reading. I need a plot and character movement and all that jazz. That probably has a lot to with my angsting over writing my book.

Maybe it'll get better later on? I dunno.

It probably won't get better later on, because she's one of those authors who is now Big Enough to be able to get the dubious privilege of escaping the editor's touch. Some authors don't need editors. She's not one of them. She had some good ideas, especially starting out, but now it's just devolved into barely-readable mush.

I'll stick to your AB fanfics, anyway. You have far more self-discipline than she does, and take constructive criticism much better.

I also need plot and character and stuff. Usually I read mystery and science fiction. Two writers I'd rec right off would be Carole Nelson Douglas (mystery) and Lois McMaster Bujold (science fiction). Miles Vorkosigan's character (and other characters in LMB's) series have grown in character.

Anyway... I figure if I do pick up LHK's latest book it will be at the library, and I won't run to the store and buy her book unless I like it. You should only support the writer if you like their books.

The universe has such great potential, it just feels like she's wasting it.

I'm still trying to toy with getting Methos to go play with them. I've got some ideas of what I want to do (he's challenged, he wins and then finds out it was another Master's human servant..) it's the whole what to do after.

*continues to ponder*

...I would totally read that. There aren't enough good HL/AB crossovers out there, especially involving Methos.

Oh, the awesome. I second the 'I'd read that!'. Why have I never gone and read an AB/HL with Methos? *smacks self* Not that I expect one to be easy to find, but I never even thought of it...*off to look*

*now wondering how she can get Methos nekkid and tied up without bodily injury*

Oh now that would be interesting.

Would the fellow have become a human servant before or after his 'first' death? If it's after they might not have realized he (could be a she) is immortal.

They could assume the 'hard to kill' thing is because of the ties between master & servant.

I'm thinking after his first death, but the vamp who took him not really being aware of what he took on. I'd think that it'd seem attractive to take on a person who seemingly couldn't stay dead--better for his health--failing to realize that the human servant had a HUGE achilles tendon--being hunted as much for who *he* was as his master.

I was lucky to find a copy at $13. But even then I have to agree with Mhalachai, I'm rather bummed. I've put it down though and don't plan on picking it back up until someone says the ending is even somewhat worth it.
