Is there any cheatsheet on products that you recommend to use to make sure you're not infected and keep protected?

Based on what Dan said ealier, I'd say patch your Windows AND Mac machines! :)

Thanks! :)

Oh, I wholeheartedly endorse keeping all computers patched with up-to-date security fixes and patches. The context for this post was a Windows problem.

There are other people better suited than me to recommend the right tests and products to make sure your Windows environment is as safe and secure as possible. But for starters, make sure you run Windows Update regularly to ensure you have all the security patches Microsoft provides, and run some form of current antivirus protection and firewall software. Even the Windows firewall and Microsoft's (still in beta?) antivirus scanner are better than nothing!

I've an equally good idea: reduce the killing of spammers to a misdemeanor offense with a 1-dollar fine as punishment.

And you macOS users, for god's sake quit being so smug so your machines don't get owned en-masse when the haxors wake up because you don't bother with security!

If you're calling me smug, you must've missed all of my published writing about Mac OS security software. The context of this post was a Windows problem.

No, I'm not calling you smug - you know too much for hubris in this matter. But a ton of mac people (some of whom, or perhaps most of whom, knowing you, read your journal) seem to honestly think that security problems just happen to those *other* people...
