In memoriam (206.0)

Facebook has talked about the ability to switch user accounts to "memorial" pages when someone dies, or delete them, depending on the preferences of next of kin. I haven't really thought about this or noticed it affecting me in any way, but they must have just done something that caused a status change on those users so they show up as inactive. A friend of mine died five years ago, and I still get notifications in my news feed when people write to him on birthdays or other meaningful dates to people who were once his friends. Jarring and a bit heartbreaking. But somehow comforting, too.

I guess it's nice to be able to interact with, and see the interactions of others with, the online representations of those who are no longer with us.
