Small rant

Right, so, I was reading the final Alex Rider book on the train home last week. Which was pretty sad, because I've read them pretty much throughout my teenage years (11+).

So, it got to the end (I'll try not to spoil), and I was like "awwwww, it ended" and turned to the acknowledgement pages. I read, lalalala, and I stop rather abruptly at a particular bit. To paraphrase to avoid spoilers, he says that he does wonder what will happen to Alex in the future, but that he always said he'd stop writing when Alex turned fifteen and that's what he's going to do.

Sound familiar? A bit like "Oh, I'll only write seven books!" from J.K Rowling?

Exceot hers was seven books ... plus an epilogue ... plus interviews detailing the characters' futures; babies, careers, partners, you name it. Oh, and the Black family tree, let's not forget.

So it just reminded me how much I hate that attitude. Of course the characters and the 'verse are incredibly important to you! I completely understand that. But, if they mean that much, if you really can't bear to let them go, then WRITE ANOTHER BOOK. Don't just drip-feed information like this! It's just ... I don't even know what it is. Ugh.

So if Horowitz ever does anything similar, I may just have to implode.
