Got bored, thought of mad xova, found google translated japanese ... life is good.
Ok. So. What I should be doing, by the way, is History homework. Which is open. I's just ... being slightly ignored.
Right. So a couple of you might know that I've been toying around with a Sailor Moon/Beyblade cross-over recently. It's epic fun to plan. So, anyone who spends any time in the more rabid side of the SM fandom knows that all the sailor senshi's surnames relate directly to their element.
I was like ... what do the boys' names mean?
From said SM browsing, I already knew 'Hi' meant fire and Mizu meant 'water' so I guessed that the boys' names would equally follow their elements. Found some obvious results;
hiwatari = pass through fire [hi = fire, watari = pass through]
mizuhara = water field [mizu - water, hara = field]
and some not-so-obvious results;
kon = gold [straight kanji, generally translated to romaji as 'kin'. Also translates as metal]
kinomiya = palace of trees [this was easy as! Knew 'Ki' was wood/trees and 'no' was of, just shoved the kanji for 'miya' into Google translator and out came palace!]
Now, Gold/Metal becomes tiger because Metal is the element associated with Byakko (forgive my spelling!) in the whole Chinese legend thing. I haven't been able to figure out where the idea for the attacks - uses nothing but claws until G-Rev where electricity says hi - comes from, but there we go. Oh, quick Google reveals that although there's nothing explicit, electricty is mentioned a lot in conjuction with the element Metal because of conduction.
Wood, though, makes sense as Ty's element because a) wood corresponds to Seiryruu (again with the shite spelling) and b) apparently the wind thing works because the Chinese just bunged it in with Wood, like a secondary element sort of thing.
This will probably only be interesting to me lol, but never mind. Hope you enjoyed that peek into my strange, research-mad brain.
