Cusco - Half day tour

Jul 22, 2010 13:30

We arrive in Cusco around 8am, go to the hotel and take a tour in the afternoon to The Temple of the Sun (Qoricancha), Sacsayhuaman (a walled fortress which precedes the Incas), Puca Pucara (with great views of Cusco and glaciers to the south), and Tambomachay Quenqo (Inca baths).

Ines tells me the name "Inca empire" is not correct. The Incas were the rulers, not the name of their empire which is called the Tawantinsuyo empire. Regardless, I will use the common name for sake of brevity and since I'm not sure I would spell Tawantinsuyo correctly.

Most of the original Temple of the Sun was destroyed by the conquistadors since it was a center of pagan worship, and a Catholic cathedral built on the site by the Dominican order.
