Extraction finished, prepare the stiff for discharge." Dr. Parker ordered the tired looking technician to his right, and received a grunt in return. Satisfied, the doctor left his heels ringing on the tile floor. The lab assistant waited until the other's footsteps had faded away before casually strolling up to the large machine that resembled an MRI machine and punched in the code. The machine whirred and began to slowly eject the body within.
"Might as well get a coffee while waiting for this piece of shit to finish." The man though to himself. "After all it's not like he's going anywhere anytime soon." he let out a harsh laugh at the silent joke and left the room, not bothering to lock it.
Vamp was startled out of his meditations when he felt it, a twinge along the bond he’d somehow managed to forge with his lover, Scott. He never understood exactly why or even how it had happened ( one of many mysteries in his life.) but sometimes he’d feel things and get ideas that came from Scott’s mind. The occasional snippets of affection and lust provided Vamp a degree of comfort during times when he could not be there physically with Scott.
When the other had been slain, sudden void had mind him all too aware of the bond. Things had seemed emptier without that connection. Fear and confusion drifted through his mind as well as a sense of searching. He looked over to see his friend and commanding officer try and calm down his wife.
“Why haven’t they let us see him yet?” Helena asked impatiently , her eyes never leaving the heavy steel doors at the end of the sterile waiting room the three of them were in.
“I’m sure they will soon, just let them do what they have to. Perhaps then we can find out how he died.” Jackson said giving Vamp a long suffering glance. Vamp just smiled and shook his head, feeling slightly guilty that he never told the other man the truth about his affair.
There were many excuses Vamp gave himself to justify keeping things secret, but now in this room he felt the weight of their secret like nothing else. For all Reggie and Helena knew, Vamp was there purely to give Jackson moral support; they did not know that he had his own personal reasons to be here as they identified the body of Scott Dolph.
From behind the door, Vamp could hear the murmuring of voices, too faint to pick up their words but their worried tone as well as the growing intensity of the bond told Vamp that it was time to extract himself from this situation.
“I will be in contact if you need my further assistance, Commander.” Vamp said softly as he rose to his feet. “There is a private matter I must attend to that cannot wait any further.”
“....” Jackson looked at Vamp stunned but reluctantly brought a hand up and rubbed the bridge of his nose. “I know you better than to argue.” Jackson replied, exhaustion evident in his tone. Scott had been more than just his father-in-law, he had been a close friend and had earned a lot of respect professionally from him.
“I shall return as soon as I am able.” Vamp promised as the doors opened. Behind him, the doors opened and he heard Helena rush up and bombard the other with questions. The last thing Vamp heard was Helena screeching, demanding to know how they could misplace a body.
“It’s alright, you can come out now, we’re alone.” Vamp said as he heard footfalls behind him. Scott’s blonde hair stood out amongst the shadows and his own dark skin. His green eyes filled with relief as he looked over Vamp. Scott wore a lab coat a few sizes too small for him that stretched over his muscles a pair of flimsily semi-transparent scrub pants.
“Mikai, I...” Scott said as he launched himself into Vamp’s waiting arms. “I shouldn’t be here should I?” He asked embracing Vamp tightly. As his mouth pressed against the other’s chest, Vamp felt something strange. He craned his neck and looked down to see a fang peeking out of Scott’s mouth.
“It does not matter. What matters is that we are together, we will get through this together.” Vamp promised, groaning as Scott ran a hand through his long hair. Scott’s teeth nipped playfully at his skin, silently pleading with the other for this moment and to leave this mystery for later.
“As you wish.” Vamp answered with a throaty laugh before bringing his own lips down and gently biting Scott’s shoulder earning him a lusty groan. Strong fingers brushed against his growing erection. Vamp gasped and pressed his body closer to that of his lover’s. Vamp’s questing fingers brushed against what could only be a gunshot wound on Scott’s chest but his mind refused to let him dwell on that now with his lover so close and so willing.
“S-Scott.” He groaned out as the other wrapped his fingers lovingly around his penis and began stroking teasingly.
“I love hearing you like this.” Scott whispered in Vamps ear playfully before gliding his tongue along the sensitive flesh. Vamp shivered in pleasure at the sudden rush of breath across his ear. He wrapped one leg about Stott’s hips and impatiently caressed his way to Scott’s own neglected erection. “That’s it baby.” Scott murmured as he felt the hand on his back claw at his skin needily.
It seemed like an eternity that they remained pressed against each other writhing in pleasure at the other’s touch until Scott gave a horse cry and bucked into Vamp’s pumping hand. Orgasm seemed to drain his strength as Scott staggered backwards in the small apartment towards a wall as he continued his ministrations on Vamp. Shortly afterwards, Vamp stiffened and moaned out Scott’s name as his own orgasm hit.
Scott leaned against the wall still not willing to let his lover go. Vamp watched him fondly before leading them further into the apartment. “Let’s get some rest. It will be easier to figure out our next step once we awaken.”
The warm, bright rays of the sun did not bring Vamp and clarity, quite the opposite. He watched Scott sleep as his own mind churned with chaos.
Vamp did not know who had killed Scott but there was a lot troubling him. Even without a body, Scott Dolph was officially dead. To have him show up alive would cause a lot of problems, not the least of which was the fear that whoever killed him might return to make sure the commandant stayed dead.
On the other end of the spectrum, Vamp had no doubt that word of Scott’s return from the dead would generate a lot of interest, interest that would land Scott in a lab for research. Vamp had enough first-hand experience not to wish that upon anyone. It was obvious that Scott’s life could never return to normal.
The less people who knew about this, the better but could Scott really stand to be unable to see his family? Ester, his beloved wife whom with Vamp shared Scott’s heart or Helena who the mere mention of always lightened the marine’s mood? Could Scott bring himself to never see the grandchildren his daughter was eager to have? No, Vamp decided his lover could not bring himself to do that, even for his own protection; all it would take is one look at them in pain to make Scott reveal himself to them. Even if Vamp were to flee with Scott somewhere where neither would be recognized, the Romanian knew Scott would be drawn back.
Besides, Vamp thought regret rising in his chest. it’s not like he could leave if he wanted to. He knew that his ‘masters’ had ways of keeping track of Vamp and would likely hound him to the ends of the earth in the event he went AWOL. Still the thought of being parted forever from his lover again was more Vamp could bear.
“Mikai?” Scott asked wrapping his arms around the other man. Vamp arched into the soothing warmth of the other’s flesh, a sob breaking through his lips at the thought of leaving this forever. “Shhh, is it another nightmare?” He asked concerned. Scotts concern and love sealed his decision.
“Yes. But unlike the others this is one that I can not wake from.” Vamp answered sadly. He lay against Scott’s chest listening to the soothing rhythm of his heart as he focused his will on the bond between them two. He felt his mind brush against Scott’s felt his emotions and thoughts still at the invasion.
“You cannot stay here.” Vamp said concentrating his will. “You need to leave here, find somewhere to hide, disappear. Forget about your family and me.” Vamp’s mind slipped momentarily but he forced himself to continue. “These are things that you can no longer touch, and tragedy will follow if you try. Go away and never return.” Vamp said reluctantly. He felt the arms holding him go slack and the body shift. He curled into a ball and shut his eyes tight, not able to watch as Scott Dolph quickly gathered some clothes, cleaned up and left the apartment forever. Anger fanned in Vamp’s chest as he vowed to make whoever forced him into this situation to pay dearly. The only company his broken heart had was the confused pain of his own lover.
Vamp expected to lay under the wreckage, sleeping forever. The sudden tingling in his brain, followed by the feeling of rock shifting above him and the dim sensation of light hitting his closed eyes. He opened them only to be greeted by darkness and the sound of stone and metal crashing against each other. The sounds got louder, the light brighter. Soft grunts and an almost forgotten scent drifted down as the weight lessened.
“I’ve always been good at following orders, most of the time.” A deep, rich voice said with a laugh. Vamp looked up and gaped.
“What are you doing here?” Vamp asked incredously. Green eyes watched him fondly.
“Some orders can’t be followed, Mikai.” Scott admitted as he pulled the last of the rubble off of Vamp. Vamp rose shakily to his feet as the last of the wreckage was pulled ff of him. “These last seven years have been hell for me, somehow I doubt they have been better for you.
Vamp blinked owlishly as Scott as the other offered his hand. It was a crime how so simple of a gesture could caused such feeling. The loneliness of the last seven years crashed down on Vamp’s shoulders even as his lover gathered him up into his arms.
“I forced you from those closest to you.” Vamp began, voice thick with regret. He pressed himself into Scott’s arms noticing that the last couple of year had left him mostly unchanged.
“I know.” Scott replied hoarsely. “You did what you had to, you are not the only one to blame.” Scott continued. “I kept some secrets, and skirted some rules that it might have been best to follow.” He admitted sadly. “We both carry the blame, and we could spend the rest of our lives arguing over who is more guilty over what.” Something other than sorrow was in Scott’s words, something of another nature.
“You have an alternative?” Vamp asked, his heart hammering in his throat.
“As far as the world is considered we both are dead and buried,” Scott began. “and with any luck the ones who put us here will soon be as well, with any luck. If you think you could stand this old fool, maybe we could find a way to build a life together despite everything that’s happened. Vamp smiled and melted into Scott’s embrace.
“It is an opportunity I have turned down once too often already.” Vamp said, his heart bursting with joy with the knowledge that whatever sorrow lay ahead that he would not have to face it alone anymore.
